Blood And Love And Adventure Are “Thicker Than Water”

“Every dystopia is masked by a utopia.” ― Rose Lovejoy

I have never read anything from this author, but was really interested in reading this story after reading the blurb. Vampires are not friendly in this book, they don’t sparkle, they don’t want to be your friend, they want you for their next meal. They are nasty, evil creatures who must be destroyed.

This is a short story, set in the future. The year 2219. Ladomer and Zor are two very different people who came together under dire circumstances. Ladomer, blamed by his family for the death of his brother is cast out and left on his own. Zor, a vampire hunter who saves Ladomer’s village is pursued by Ladomer to join him on his hunts. Together they set out to destroy vampires and try to save the human race.

I really enjoyed following these two on their latest mission. They work well with one another and even though they’ve been together for a few years, you get to see the love they have for each other. There are some tender moments and a little bit of humor, but in no way are they distracted from the task at hand.

The fight scenes in this story are choreographed very well by the author and are easy to read. The reader doesn’t get lost in the fight, very well done. I also believe the author did a great job in bringing back vampires as the enemy and something to fear. There isn’t one ounce of sympathy for vampires in this story.

I absolutely loved the world building in this story. I loved the descriptions of the desolate cities. I could actually see the abandoned skyscrapers, the grass taking over the concrete. The back story on how this all came to be was short, but it was all the information we needed to move this story along.

The climax of this story was pretty intense. There are a few surprises that I didn’t see coming and I loved being in the dark until those secrets were exposed. I won’t spoil the surprise, but I actually gasped out loud and was like, “No way!!” Poor Ladomer, my heart broke for him.

All in all, this was a story I really enjoyed reading. I loved seeing Ladomer and Zor so in tune with each other, whether it be fighting off vampires, or the quiet moments they share with one another.

Highly recommended for those who want an adventure with a splash of romance.

Love vamp books, and not necessarily ones where the vamps are the good guys. With a bit of love thrown in…sounds like my kind of book.
