“Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition” Part Deux – Please Welcome Eileen Griffin!

Thanks for hosting me on your blog today. :)

I’ve been asked what my inspiration was when I was writing Claiming Ayden. I have a weakness for Alpha males and absolutely love the wolf sub-culture. They’re fascinating animals that are extremely territorial about their packs, travel vast distances to find food and shelter to ensure the health of their packs, but are also one of the few animals that mate for life. When I was developing my story and characters, I kept envisioning the scene from Last of the Mohicans when Hawkeye (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) was racing to rescue his love, Cora. The intensity with which he traverses the distance and landscape to save her has stuck with me all these years – for me, it was a pivotal scene in the movie. It made me wonder how a wolf/human shifter would react to his beloved, in this case Ayden, was captured by his Alpha’s enemy. The story basically wrote itself from there. It was such an awesome and novel experience to create a world and story for them, that I hope to one day continue Ayden and Thane’s story in future novellas. :)

Inspiration for Thane:

Inspiration for Ayden:

Claiming Ayden by Eileen Griffin

Genre: Erotic Romance, M/M, Paranormal, Shifter

Length: Anthology Length Short Story

Release Date: January 24, 2014

Publisher: Evernight Publishing

Anthology Title: Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition

Strength. Power. Domination.

The shifters in our Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology have one thing in common—they won’t take “no” for an answer. Whether they lead packs of their own, or whether they walk a solitary path, these alphas won’t let anyone stop them from claiming their men.

Lose yourself in these ten sinfully delicious love stories. After all, who could deny an Alpha’s claim?

Blurb for Claiming Ayden:

Thane, Alpha of his pack of shifter wolves, is running out of time. Drake, Alpha of a rival pack and Thane’s enemy, has stolen into Thane’s camp to capture three of his youngest members, including his intended mate Ayden.

Drake needs numbers to increase the size of his pack and he does not care how he accomplishes that feat. Will Drake succeed and not only increase the number of his pack but eliminate Thane as a rival Alpha and enemy to his pack? Or will Thane’s need for his mate and desire to have him at any cost be the tipping point that will help him overthrow Drake and claim Ayden once and for all?

Excerpt from Claiming Ayden

Thane looked down at Ayden’s white blond hair and felt his chest tighten. He lifted his hand and settled it in the pup’s hair. He had to hold back a moan when he felt a tremor go through the pup’s body the moment his fingers brushed along Ayden’s scalp. Thane tightened his fingers in Ayden’s hair and pulled the younger man’s face to his. Crystal blue eyes stared back at him. Nowhere in them was there any fear or pain. Instead, Thane saw the same expression of surety and desire Ayden had worn when he’d wandered into their camp almost two and a half years ago.

“Thank you for the food, pup. But that’s not the sustenance I need tonight.”

The tremor Thane had felt turned into a shudder as Ayden placed the food and water on the ground. Then in a show of true submission he gently leaned his head into the grasp Thane had on his hair, leaving his neck exposed.

Thane’s cock filled with blood and hardened against his body. His eyes roamed over the battered body of his true mate to check for damage that would prevent him from taking the action he should have completed before they had begun their journey to the winter lands. Roane approached Thane’s side and slid the leather thong from his neck, pressing it into his leader’s free hand before backing away.

Embracing Diversity With Elizabeth Bishop – Storm Moon Press 4th Anniversary Blog Tour

Diversity has been on my mind of late. I watched a documentary about a young man who was murdered just because he dared to put on a dress and change his name. Another about a girl who was bullied and ended up killing herself. It is everywhere. Racial divides, books being banned for content, fighting about whether gay marriage is legal or not… it never ends. Now we find issues of harassment in the workplace and on football fields. It is rampant in our society and the message is clear: conform or we will make you. I have one word for that. No. I will not. I am who I am and will explore the boundaries of my own mind as I want to.

The current state of the world makes me think long and hard about the things I write about. Let me introduce myself. I am Erzabet Bishop, and I write erotica. Yes, it is a pen name. Under my real name I write horror and young adult fiction. Having a pen name is a must for me for two reasons. One- I separate my erotica from my young adult (you really have to), and two- there are some people that still treat erotica as porn and that is a very unfortunate fact. My first professionally published work was with Storm Moon Press, and I have always celebrated their willingness to tread into waters that can be at times risky and dangerous. They publish the edgy fiction that made my heart sing the first time I got that acceptance letter, and it hasn’t stopped since.

Under my erotic author mask, I am just the same as anyone else. I have a mortgage, pay my bills, and struggle with a leak in the roof and a new puppy that needs to get to the vet. There is always something. In my writing, I grab onto things that make the mundane into something special, whether that is a f/f story about a werewolf cop (When the Clock Strikes Thirteen, Ylva) or my m/f story Holidays In Hell from the wonderful Storm Moon Press. Just released as a single short story apart from its original anthology, it features an incubus with some diversity problems of his own. Demons are supposed to like Halloween, not have a serious kink for Christmas ornaments. I also write for NNP and the basis of my series for them is Pagan based erotica. Yep… here we go with another form of diversity. The point is, there is beauty in every culture, religion and way of life. You just have to be open minded enough to see it and appreciate the good in those around you, no matter their sexual orientation, religious affiliations, sex, gender, or ethnicity.

So, I look at the news nowadays and sigh and go back to writing my stories. More and more, I produce lesbian fiction, although Holidays in Hell happens to be m/f . There is something about looking at love as an all-inclusive emotion that comes out more and more in my writing. Well, that and a little kink with a crochet hook (Anything She Wants – “Hooked”) or a naughty spatula in EPS: Samhain Shadows. Who has the right to tell us who to love? Whether it is an incubus falling for a mortal girl he is supposed to suck the soul from or a lesbian werewolf cop finding a mate in a woman at a convention… diversity is life. It is inclusion. It is the spark that gives meaning. If everyone were the same, it would be a very pastel world indeed. It would be all tea cozies and no naughty corset washcloths or vibrator pouches. Dang. How boring is that?

Exploring the wonderful world of erotic fiction gives us a whole new and nonthreatening way to discover things about ourselves as readers and writers that we never knew existed. I love reading lesbian fiction and delving into the psyche behind how those relationships work in real life. People are fascinating and, as I found with one of my newest projects involving domestic abuse and cancer in a star-crossed lesbian love story, love comes in all flavors. Often just when you least expect it. Thank God.

Erzabet Bishop has been crafting stories since she could pound keys on her parent’s old typewriter. She has only just learned that it is a whole lot more fun writing naughty books. She lives in Texas with her husband and furry children and can often be found lurking in local bookstores. She loves to bake, make naughty crochet projects and watch monster movies. She can be found on Twitter @ErzabetBishop.

Christian Baines, Glass House Books

Please Welcome Author Christian Baines, “The Beast Without”, And A Giveaway!

The Beast Without follows Reylan, a vampire – or Blood Shade, as they’re known in this universe, who’s just over a century and a half old and has been happily independent and asexual all that time. My first rule was no angsty vampires! Reylan loves being what he is, and if there’s something missing from his life (which of course there is) he’s not going to admit it. In many ways, Jorgas, the young werewolf who attacks and then stalks him, is his polar opposite. He’s volatile and angry, full of sexual energy with no outlet. So as rival predators they’re both extremely dangerous in their own way, perhaps most of all to each other.

They’re not the easiest guys to know, but those flaws are part of what draws them together. Reylan is arrogant, narcissistic and often quite selfish. Jorgas is stuck in this self-indulgent, self-loathing panic over his emerging nature, which causes him to lash out. Jorgas needs a stable compass, while Reylan needs an explosive kick up the arse. I didn’t really set out to write any metaphors, but I think many gay men rely on that hostility and/or cynicism as a defense mechanism, and some wind up trapped by it. So as Reylan and Jorgas start to break down those defenses in each other, I guess you could call The Beast Without a traditional romance in that sense.

It’s still very much an urban fantasy novel however. This MM relationship just happens to be at its core. I don’t mind HEA, but I prefer a broader plot in which romance manifests as moments of happiness that I can relate to in that context and appreciate for what they are. Reylan and Jorgas don’t get many of them, not just because of the genre, but because of their conflicting natures and because this is a potentially very dangerous relationship still in its infancy.

The plot focuses on the murders that bring them together and the broader mysteries Reylan uncovers along the way. I’m big on world building and drawn to stories that play the long game and seed their plot quite early (Yes, I’m a David Lynch fan. Take from that what you will!). So there’s a colourful roster of supporting characters, each with their own agenda, and the lines between good and evil can be hard to make out.

For Reylan and Jorgas, that means certain events in the book bring them closer together, while some also burden them with terrible secrets. I tried to maintain a moral ambiguity that fits with their monstrous natures and keeps the relationship volatile. It’s a lot of fun to play with, and I hope to continue Reylan’s story very soon.

Reylan is everything a Sydney vampire aspires to be: wealthy, handsome and independent, carefully feeding off companions plucked from the gay bars of Oxford Street.

When one of those companions is killed by Jorgas, a hot-headed young werewolf prowling his streets, Reylan reluctantly puts his cherished lifestyle of blood and boys on hold to help a mysterious alliance of supernatural beings track down the beast. It can’t be that hard … not when Jorgas keeps coming after him.

But there’s more to this werewolf than a body count and a bad attitude. As their relationship grows deeper and more twisted, Reylan tastes Jorgas’ blood, reawakening desires the vampire had thought long dead. And what evolves between them may be far more dangerous than some rival predator in the dark…

Rory made a striking figure, striding along Oxford Street towards my home, now wearing the black singlet that had hung from his belt inside the club.

I cut a nice figure myself, letting a little of my gifts pervade the air around us. In the pursuit of companions, one’s appearance prior to the ‘change’ matters very little – a sly benefit brought on by centuries of rapid evolution. Once our predatory nature takes hold, it radiates with sexual magnetism. A lure, if you will. What’s the use of eternal youth if you can’t convince the world you’re irresistible, after all?

As we weaved through the crowd at Taylor Square and met the privacy of Darlinghurst’s darkened streets, I felt Rory throw a heavy arm over my shoulder. I hoped the man wasn’t going to play clingy. I don’t play well with clingy, no matter how beautiful – or drunk – it is.

My companion had no way to detect the sudden stillness of the night air, his already limited human senses dulled by liquor. But I knew. I knew it was too still.

“Mmm?” The man’s pace never slowed.

I softened my steps, acute ears reaching out for anything nearby. Something accustomed to hiding, something that didn’t want to be seen.

Perhaps, something like me?

“This way.” I eased Rory towards a side street that took us off the main road and out of public view. I could partly cloak both of us, even from the prying eyes of another of my kind, but not for long. This enviable specimen of humanity was mine, damn it. I had seduced him, I would drink from him, and I was not inclined to share.

“Hey,” my lunch called.

I swear my fangs flashed as I rounded on Rory with a furious glare. He was too drunk to notice. Idiot. You don’t ‘Hey’ our kind when we’re nervous. The consequences are typically… unpleasant.

“You want to have some fun with me?” he teased.

“Yes, but we’ve got to keep moving.” I sniffed the air. No scent – no sound anymore either. Had we lost whatever I thought I’d heard in the dark? I took Rory’s hand again and tried to lead him away. But the man just smiled.

“Why not here?”

I stared at him. “What? No!” This was the last thing I needed – a drunken exhibitionist.

“Come on, man. There’s nobody watching. It’ll be hot.”

I could barely contain my annoyance behind clenched teeth as Rory pawed at my shirt, his warm fingers dancing over the cool flesh of my waist. I tried to push him away, careful not to use my full preternatural strength. If I was already facing some rival predator, lurking in the dark, I didn’t need the complication of accidentally breaking my companion’s ribs.

I gasped as Rory slid a hand inside my ‘impenetrably’ tight trousers and kissed me. I let him nuzzle me a moment, then forced him to break. “Not here. Not now.”

Mumbling what sounded like an obscene description of precisely what he hoped to do to me ‘here and now,’ Rory grabbed my vest and yanked it up, his tongue cutting a slow, sensual dance down my chest. I shivered as cold air hit the pale, moistened skin. My companion lapped at my abs with warm, open kisses as he pulled open my belt and pants. He wasn’t taking no for an answer.

I listened for the intruder once more, trying to shut out the mortal’s lustful sighs as he explored me. Still nothing. Perhaps I’d imagined it, or ‘it’ had lost us. In any case, I’d soon lose my prey if I didn’t get back into character. I closed my eyes and tried to relax.

“That’s better,” Rory grinned, as he took me in his mouth.

I wasn’t convinced we were out of danger yet. With a sniff of the air, I was certain. Yes, something was out here now, and it was close. At least Rory was distracted. I shuddered as he yanked down my trousers, grabbing my backside with strong hands, pulling me deeper as his fingers teased me. I ran an appreciative caress over his biceps, shoulders and neck.

Then, in the dark, I saw the intruder’s outline. He was roughly my height, but slouched, his manner almost tentative as he watched us. I tapped Rory’s arm to get his attention, nodding at the intruder. “Excuse me, do you mind?”

No answer.
Rory quickly turned and shouted as I redressed, “Hey, are you deaf, mate? Piss off, will you?”

Still nothing.

Rory glanced back at me with a grin. “I think somebody wants to party with us.”

This, I sincerely doubted.

My companion turned back to the figure with a cocky swagger. “Show us what you got, then.”

A young man stepped tentatively from the darkness. The stench of cheap cigarettes hung from his clothes. His jeans were ripped, and he wore a stained and faded jacket that at one time had been blue. His hair was a mess of dark brown locks. The kid’s face had been unshaven for just over a day, and his tongue bled from an accidental bite. I could smell it.

Rory shook his head, putting an arm around me again. “Jesus. You into rough trade,

“Shut up!” the kid barked.

We startled as he waved a flick-knife at us.

Still, I was relieved. I’d had every nerve and fibre primed, ready to fight for my prey, yet my nemesis had turned out to be some unkempt delinquent too gutless to hold up a convenience store. He couldn’t have been much more than twenty, probably still living with his parents in some suburban backwater in the outer west.

I almost pitied him.

“Your wallets, fags. Now!” He flashed the knife at Rory and tried to look intimidating.

This was no easy feat, for while the mugger was almost six foot tall, Rory was several inches clear of that benchmark and almost as broad around the chest.

“Okay.” Rory eased off of me and took out his wallet. Any trace of the drunk, muscle-bound horn dog, who moments before had been so focused on the worship of my flesh, was now gone as the situation sank in. “Just relax. It’s okay, you can have it. Just be cool, alright?”

I had to admit, the man’s calm confidence impressed me. Ego and alcohol were, just occasionally, a useful mix.

“I said now! You too.” This time, the bastard pointed the knife at me.

I slowly took out my wallet, the focus of my curiosity shifting from companion to thug.

Surely, Rory wasn’t intimidated? One swipe of those big hands and this discussion would be over. Hell, I wasn’t bound by human limits. One punch from me would achieve the same outcome. But that was out of the question in front of the human. Plus, there was every chance the thief would remember it when he woke up. If he woke up.

But something was different now. Too different. The mugger was flinching, like a dog taking fright.

“Rory, get behind me and get ready to run,”

(Except maybe their own love lives!) But if you find yourself needing a doctor, head on down to Rabbit Hash clinic, or St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is just up the road a piece. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Kris: How to control three completely different authors and make them meld together in an anthology? It’s a mystery to all but a select few.

*peering thoughtfully into the distance as she runs a finger around the rim of the glass holding her beverage of choice*

Could actually be compared to herding a bunch of playful toddlers really. Imagine a big playroom full of FUN stuff to play with: hot men that turn into wolves or a bear or a fox; a hot Marine that doesn’t believe that shifters exist; and three authors that want to go left/right/backwards/forwards.

Cherie: Oh, dear. I will admit to running off in several different directions. I think Kris’ arms got quite the workout hauling me back in line time after time. Sweet Jambie even had to crack the whip a time or two. I couldn’t seem to stop complicating things. Sheesh.

*Yes, it probably is an adult beverage Kris has in that glass…look the group of authors she’s dealing with O.0 She needs the fortification*

Jambrea: I do remember cracking a whip—maybe. Lol I remember saying whoa a couple times in the beginning.

Kendall: *arching eyebrow* Well, we are all a little on the hyper and talkative side. He he he. Strap in! We’re erotica writers… so you post a picture of a place named Big Bone Lick… I was calling it Big Boner Dick as a working title the whole time I wrote it. Once Kris Jacen said she would edit it I couldn’t not write something.

Kris: *ahem* Add in a deadline and a strict rule of FUN! You’ll need to have some structure…you can always do a group FB message (I hear the authors made a rainbow Google doc to help them).

Cherie: *facepalm* I will never live down the multicolored google doc, will I? Nor the angst driven half a chapter that I had to edit out whilst Kris tap-tap-tapped her toes and gave me the sad editor face. I hate the sad editor face.

*snickers from Jambrea and Kendall*

Kendall: Yes. Rainbow hued goole docs. *shaking head* Well, that was where we shared our story ideas, character notes, our research and…I found out the mayor of Rabbit Hash has a border collie. That had to go in the book. That’s not a joke. It had to be written.

Kris: *clearing throat and giving Jambie, Kendall, and Cherie a very stern look*
What was fun for me about the whole experience? Seeing the three authors step out of their “normal” box and just have fun and try and mesh without reading each other’s stories. I think they did a pretty good job.

Jambrea: Yeah—I think we did a pretty good job of melding together to get a great story. I know I loved reading Cherie’s and Kendall’s stories and it is always awesome to have Kris helping us out and keeping us in line.

Blurb: James Ellsworth is a bit jaded, especially for his young age. He hates school and longs for his parents’ estate, where life is far more pleasant. Meeting new schoolmate Daniel Courtney is a much-needed distraction, one that will prove more and more engrossing as James and Daniel grow older.

When his father dies, James is thrust into a position of responsibility, not just to his estate, but to his mother and sister as well. He leans as much as he can on his friendship with Daniel, but young Courtney has his own problems. His brother, George, is all Daniel has left in the world, and when he loses his brother to a freak accident, Daniel is left alone and without prospects.

All the while, the two young men are discovering a relationship that their Victorian world will never approve of. Trying to deal with their loss and their love drives them apart — James to a life of debauchery, Daniel to a life of study and work.

As they grow older, James and Daniel discover that life is not what they thought it would be when they were schoolboys together, and that, even as they try to make their own way, they always come back to one another.

Icarus in Flight (from Chapter 24)

James managed to learn more about Rafaele. It took a series of private parties and furtive exchanges between him and two fellow exiles whom he’d long known.

They were young Oxford men “of his sort” who skulked in the shadows as he did, fumbling in the dark for a happier turn of fortune for themselves in their intimate lives.

To one friend, Charles Brandon, he usually repaired for more open conversation.

Charles had taken up residence near the Campo del Traghetto, opting for San Marco and the Dorsoduro’s “religious orgy of churches dedicated to saints of every persuasion, all outbidding each other for a chance to raise their voices the loudest heavenward,” as he so dryly described it. James found his friend’s situation a source of endless amusement—a condemned soul living comfortably within the shadows of all these churches. Charles also took perverse delight in throwing his windows wide open against the night air and standing a few feet within, arms spread. He’d be naked and brazenly challenging La Salute’s silhouette across the Grand Canal, her volutes breaking the night sky with their exaggerated scalloping. He often called these exhibitions “sensual cleansing.”

James himself opted to stay where he’d hoped to find permanent settlement, temporarily taking up lodgings with a Signora Turrini in Castello. He made frequent visits to Charles. The two young men often wandered off to various parts of Venice.

“Still pining after Ganymede, are we?” Charles noted with a sidelong glance. James sat across from him, slouching on a satin and lacquer armchair with stiff cushions.

“Curious is more accurate,” James replied, unfazed. “I was his, uh—”

Charles threw his head back as he laughed. “Protector!” he echoed. “Yes, of course! Protector.”

James watched him, a touch irritated. “Have you any news of him? It’s been a year at least.”

Indeed, Charles had news of the boy. Rafaele, he claimed, was set to marry a young lady on whose moneyed shoulders hopes for his family’s advancement were placed.

James listened to all these in some surprise. “Are you certain?” he asked.

“His story’s known around here. Well—save for his old habits, thank God.” Charles smirked over his wineglass. “One can’t help but spread the word, I suppose, with his story being the stuff of vapid romances—abandoned mother and son, poverty, beautiful girl and charming boy, love amid the lire—”

“He never said anything about the lady.”

“I don’t believe he even considered an attachment to her when you were here. One can only presume that his schedule since you left was quite—filled.”

“An attachment! What, in a year’s time?”

Charles nodded, refilling his glass with an air of tired detachment. “I’ve seen shorter engagements. This is nothing.”

“How long have they known each other before this?”

“About half a year, I think. No, wait. I believe it would be closer to three months. That is, if one were to believe wrinkled old gossips with far too much time on their hands.”

“This is absurd!”

Charles emptied his glass in two massive gulps. “Let him be, James. He was a whore once. He seems happy being where he is now.”

“I’ve no intention of chasing after him, knowing his plans. I find the mere suggestion offensive.”

“All the better for everyone, I daresay, blunted hopes and all.”

“You think me desperate.”

Charles eyed him, his gaze steady and probing. “I think you naïve, actually, which can be exasperatingly charming at times.”

James stared at the wine in his glass. What a preposterous situation, he noted, for Rafaele to mimic Daniel even to this point—a marriage of convenience. A perfect doppelganger, indeed.

About Hayden Thorne: I’ve lived most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area though I wasn’t born there (or, indeed, the USA). I’m married with no kids and three cats, am a cycling nut (go Garmin!), and my day job involves artwork, great coworkers who specialize in all kinds of media, and the occasional strange customer requests involving papier mache fish with sparkly scales.

I’m a writer of young adult fiction, specializing in contemporary fantasy, historical fantasy, and historical genres. My books range from a superhero fantasy series to reworked folktales to Victorian ghost fiction. My themes are coming-of-age with very little focus on romance (most of the time) and more on individual growth with some adventure thrown in.

LGBT teens have all sorts of stories to tell. They’re heroes not only of contemporary adventures or of fantasy and magic, but also of history. The rules might be different – stricter, a bit more frightening given 19th century laws, for instance – but there are still dreams to be shaped, character to be developed, and all of these done within the parameters set by the genre. It’s going to be a challenge, sure, but if it means allowing LGBT kids their own time in the “limelight” of, say, the Victorian stage, I’m game.

Kingett Reads “Basketball Jones” – Chapter One

In chapter one of Basketball Jones, exposition is definitely the forefront of the chapter, but there’s also a lot of demonstration of the relationship that I don’t know how to wrap my head around. Intrigued? It’s time for Kingett to read Basketball Jones.

Even though I haven’t been on this earth very long I have developed my own thoughts about subjects that I think very heavily about. One of these is jealousy. While I could dictate a novel about my opinions and point of view on jealousy, I want to discuss something that’s very interesting in this chapter apart from the jealousy. It relates to the writing style.

Nikka Michaels Is Here To Tell You Five Things You Should Know About Waking Up Wolf

Thanks so much to Lisa at The Novel Approach for giving me a chance to share five things about the wolf shifters in my newest release, Waking Up Wolf in Evernight Publishing’s M/M Shifter Anthology, Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition. Big gropey loves for The Novel Approach for letting me hang out with them today. It’s an honor.

Waking Up Wolf is a short paranormal erotic romance where two men find each other in a post- apocalyptic world. When a radioactive leak in the local water source turns the inhabitants of Adam Baker’s small town into shape shifting wolves, he manages to hold and survive alone–except for the wolves he hears in the distance. When he doesn’t immediately undergo “the change” into a wolf himself, he begins to believe he’s immune. After his dreams begin to include another wolf, he finds himself drawn to the howls outside his window and the pack’s alpha, Grady Conway.

1) In the post Change world, shifters (changelings) and trues (the wolves who were born wolves) compete with each other for their lives and territory.
2) Unlike other shifter worlds, the human wolf shifters in Waking Up Wolf underwent the change due to a radioactive leak in the water system.
3) Alpha’s are the leader of individual Changeling groups and they have to claim a mate.
4) Changelings can communicate through their minds when in wolf form.
5) Changelings can learn to shift and control their change at will with practice.

Now, let me introduce you a little more to Waking Up Wolf:

Anthology Title: Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition

Strength. Power. Domination.

The shifters in our Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology have one thing in common—they won’t take “no” for an answer. Whether they lead packs of their own, or whether they walk a solitary path, these alphas won’t let anyone stop them from claiming their men.

Lose yourself in these ten sinfully delicious love stories. After all, who could deny an Alpha’s claim?

Adam watched him carefully. “You don’t even know me. Why would you invite me back with your family, your pack?”

Grady looked down. “What if I told you we needed you? That I needed you?”

Adam stared at him like he’d gone crazy.

“Me? Why would you need me?”

“A true alpha needs a mate.” Grady raised his head, meeting Adam’s eyes, and for a moment he couldn’t look away.

“And you think I’m your mate?”

“I don’t think. I know. You’re my mate, always have been.”

Adam backed away, and he felt himself shake and pain shoot through his body as he fell to his knees. Naked and sprawled in the dirt he stared up at Grady, who closed his eyes and shifted, leaving himself bare as well.

Adam swallowed hard as he stared up at Grady in shock. This close he could see every single inch of the tanned and toned body of the man who commanded a pack. Muscled and imposing, he stared down at Adam, his blue eyed gaze heated.

Without another word, Grady took a step closer, sliding his hand over the top of Adam’s head possessively. He slowly wrapped his hand around Adam’s long dark dreads and pulled his head back, exposing his neck. Adam’s eyes slammed shut as he waited for Grady to change and wolf teeth to tear out his throat. Instead, when Grady’s human teeth sank into his shoulder he shuddered and cried out.

Pleasure/pain surged through Adam’s body as he jerked awake, his cock throbbing as he felt hot cum stripe his belly. His legs shook as he panted for breath, his bed sheets and body soaked with sweat.

His dreams had never been that vivid before, and when he shifted his body his muscles screamed in protest and he flopped back with a moan.

When he yanked back the blankets he stared.

His feet were dirty, caked in mud along with his hands. On his neck, he could feel Grady’s teeth marks.

He’d been marked by the alpha.
