Blurb: Will has a temper as wild as the bear he holds inside. Normally he’s an easy-going, caring guy, but if someone crosses him, he uses his claws and shifter strength to set them straight. His temper ruined his chance at the career he wanted, but now he’s working at Wild R Farm, enjoying the camaraderie and longing for more with one special man.
No one at the farm knows much about Ryan. He’s done time in prison and he carries scars that tell of something horrible in his past. When he gifts Will with one of his rare smiles, Will decides to do whatever it takes to get him to smile more often. Will is used to being a protector, and even when he learns Ryan’s dark secrets, he refuses to turn away. What he doesn’t realize is that he needs Ryan’s quiet strength as much as Ryan needs someone to show they care. Ryan’s past threatens to send him running, but Will and the rest of the crew of Wild R prove that no matter the danger, they take care of their own.
Review: This may just be one of my favorite books of this series so far. When we met Will he was being held prisoner, and he proved how strong he was. We also learned how his temper cost him his dreams of becoming a veterinarian. Now that he is working at the Wild R, he has mellowed a bit and his dreams have changed a bit; now they revolve around a quiet man who hasn’t spoken a word to Will, but the small, shy smiles that Ryan graces him with have inspired Will to learn more about the quiet man.
Ryan has been on the Wild R for a while now, and not many know much of anything about him other than his back is covered in some nasty scars, he served time in prison, and he is one of the best horse trainers they have ever seen.
Once Will sets his mind to something, he isn’t easily deterred. Ryan has become Will’s object of affection. Will begins a very subtle courtship of Ryan, and they share a picnic and an occasional smile. This is real progress with Ryan since no one else has gotten this close before.
As soon as the two men start to move forward into second date territory, Ryan’s past threatens to come back with a vengeance and instead of putting the men of Wild R in danger, he tries to leave. Will isn’t about to let Ryan leave now that they have begun a relationship. Ryan is shocked when all the men on the farm band together to protect him, and he isn’t sure how to protect them and himself at the same time.
Eventually the threat to Ryan and the farm is identified, but handling the threat is only part of the solution for Will and Ryan. Will has a terrible temper that has cost him a lot, and Ryan has plenty of secrets of his own. They will have to work through all of these issues if they want to make a strong future together.
Silvia Violet has created a unique experience on Wild R Farm, shifters and humans side by side in full awareness of one another, living, loving, and occasionally fighting. There is a true sense of family with all of these misfits who have banded together through friendship and love.
I always look forward to the next book coming out in this series, and this book lived up to the expectations wonderfully. Ryan was a wounded man trying to find his way in the world, but he wasn’t broken, and ends up showing his strength. Will finds that even his grumpy bear routine can’t run off true love, and he realizes that dreams don’t really die, sometimes they just come to fruition later in life.
I would not only highly recommend this book, but definitely the entire series.
