Spotlight and Giveaway: “Let Love Live” by Melissa Collins

Blurb: Who would you become if you lost the only person who ever mattered?

For twenty-six year old Dylan Hopkins, the answer is easy. He’s become no one. Memories of the happier times are all he has left as he finds himself meandering numbly through his now dull life. Though he cares about his work and family dearly, he’s yet to let himself find love again. Afraid of letting go of what he once had, Dylan chooses to keep his heart buried, where it belongs, having died a long time ago.

Conner Michelson is about to change everything Dylan knows. He’s every bit the bad boy persona – tatted up, ex-MMA fighter, but after an injury leaves him unable to fight, he has to rethink his goals. Having just opened his own gym, Conner can cross his first major life accomplishment off his very short list. Next up: find a man he can settle down with and build a family. Seems simple enough – a dream most people have, but when he meets Dylan, his carefree, easy-going life is thrown into a tailspin. Continue reading

Guest Post and Spotlight: “Blue Skye” by Viki Lyn

blueskye-200Thank you for having me as a guest today! I’m thrilled that Blue Skye is available for .99 cents at all vendor sites through September 3 (thank you Musa Publishing!)

Blue Skye is the first book set in the fictional town of Woodland Village. The town is its own character and weaves the three books together.

The village had to be close to Manhattan by train because Skye Taylor lives in an artist loft in New York City. And, I wanted the town to be a weekend destination for New Yorkers. The Village has a beautiful harbor and is a perfect bay for sailing. Enough tourists visit on the weekends to support art galleries, a local coffeehouse and a gourmet grocery story. This had to be a thriving upscale town that supported my character’s professions and lifestyle. Continue reading

Guest Post and Giveaway: Welcome Merry Farmer

MerryFarmer_SomebodyToLove_CoverIronically enough, even though Somebody to Love is the seventh book in my Montana Romance series, the character of Phineas Bell was one of the first characters in the entire Montana Romance series to pop into my mind. The funny thing about characters is that, as a writer, you don’t sit down and think in advance about the kind of character you want to create. They’re kind of already there, and you just get to know them.

Phin is actually sort of based on a very dear friend of mine from high school. As I was writing the first novel in the series, Our Little Secrets, I knew that I wanted my hero to have a steady and reliable best friend. I wanted him to be kind and generous, always available with good advice and a shoulder to cry on, sort of like my high school friend. And so Phin came into being out of the nicest and purest ideas of friendship and support. He’s someone you can truly rely on. The fact that he is a gay man living in a time and place where that was a serious problem made him all the more special to me. Continue reading

ScottBW_WebSize_0348TNA: Hi, Scott, thanks so much for joining us here at The Novel Approach today. We’re happy to have you with us. Why don’t we start by having you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Scott: I hail from St. Louis, but after two decades in Manhattan I consider myself a New Yorker. I received my MFA from the (amazing!) New School in 2009, which is what led me to writing novels. Prior I had written some screenplays and worked as a journalist. In Grad School, I fell in love again with prose, and became a die hard fan of William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy (my two idols).

TNA: When you sat down to write what eventually would become your first novel, did you write with the intention of submitting it to a publisher, or was it a less deliberate process for you? Guest Post and Giveaway: It’s All Grist For The Mill with Charley Descoteaux

Thanks so much for having me back, Lisa!

Maybe you’ve heard the title of this post said before. Writers say it a lot, because it’s true. Sometimes we don’t realize just how true it is until we’ve finished a manuscript and go back for that final polish, before unleashing the story on our unsuspecting and beloved publisher. This happened to me with The Nesting Habits of Strange Birds.

This story came about with the help of a few strategic grists (if that wasn’t already a word, I want it to be now). First, I saw a picture on Pinterest that made me start writing.Phil introduced himself pretty much immediately. He was always Phil Brask, a guy who lives with his mentor in an historic Victorian in the Goose Hollow district in SW Portland. Continue reading
