Audio Review: All Kinds of Tied Down by Mary Calmes – Narrated by Tristan James

Title: All Kinds of Tied Down

Author: Mary Calmes

Narrator:: Tristan James

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

Run Time: 9 hours, 1 minute

Rating: 5 Stars

Blurb: Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones has a reputation for being calm and collected under fire. These traits serve him well with his hotshot partner, Ian Doyle, the kind of guy who can start a fight in an empty room. In the past three years of their life-and-death job, they’ve gone from strangers to professional coworkers to devoted teammates and best friends. Miro’s cultivated blind faith in the man who has his back… faith and something more.
As a marshal and a soldier, Ian’s expected to lead. But the power and control that brings Ian success and fulfillment in the field isn’t working anywhere else. Ian’s always resisted all kinds of tied down, but having no home—and no one to come home to—is slowly eating him up inside. Over time, Ian has grudgingly accepted that going anywhere without his partner simply doesn’t work. Now Miro just has to convince him that getting tangled up in heartstrings isn’t being tied down at all.

Review: Sam Kage is in All Kinds of Tied Down, and Jory and the kids are doing great! And they are going to have a party to celebrate fifteen years together. Please, Mary Calmes, can we be invited too? I just had to get that plea out there. I hope Mary reads this review. Maybe I will send her a copy so she gets the hint!

All Kinds of Tied Down is a great read and it’s a great audio book too. The narrator, Tristan James, is a superstar; he could read a manual about how to hand wash a car, and I would buy the audio and listen to every word, even though it’s the last thing I like doing. Who really wants to learn how to wash a car by hand? That’s why we have car washes, right?

Anyway, I thought long and hard about this book and how to review it at a new angle. I think this audio is about family. So many different kinds of family are represented in this book: crime families, a single dad family, US Marshal families, and intentional families. I could name all the different kinds here, but I think you just need to read about them. Of course, it is a love story with a HEA ending, which Mary Calmes takes pride in her stories having. So, let’s see, crime, sex, family, young love, hot steamy sex, and hot steamy men. Oh, I said sex twice. Oh well, it’s my review, right?

Tristan James narrates throughout the audio with a deep, rich voice. His is the perfect vehicle, providing clear distinctions in the courageous US Marshals he portrays. Both leading characters are macho, but Ian Doyle has a secret hint of a submissive tone in his voice, and Tristan picks that up beautifully. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! Is this book one in a new series, or is it book seven or so in the A Matter of Time series. It can be either, it’s up to you as the reader/ listener. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.

For this reader, listener, and fan of the A Matter of Time books, I am so glad Mary Calmes is including Jory and Sam in the new series. Thank you, Mary, live long and keep writing, please and thank you.
