TNA: Hi, Garrett, thanks so much for being here with us today. Why don’t we start out with you telling us a little bit about yourself?
Garrett: Erm, let’s see…I write porn and keep chickens. I have lots of ink and bake my own bread. I’m a kinda hybrid gal, really. :)
TNA: How would you describe your sense of humor? What makes you laugh?
Garrett: Myself, mainly, which is lucky, ‘cause I’m a bit of a twit. But, seriously, anything can make me laugh, given the right mood, but I’m a big fan of silliness, you know, just arsing around, just for hell of it. Clever humour passes me by.
TNA: If you had the chance to go back and write yourself in as a character in one of your books, which book would you choose, and why?
Garrett: Despite all the heartache, I’d have to say Max from Only Love. Their collection of physical ailments aside, the way he and Jed live at their cabin by the lake—chickens, dogs, wholefoods and thr great outdoors—is my idea of heaven.
TNA: To piggyback that question, which of all your characters would you say most resembles you? How so?
Garrett: Erm, I’d say Ash from Slide resembles me most, though put a lot of myself into Pete too. Ash has a lot of my nuances and weird habits, but Pete has my mother hen nature (and the contradictory habit of trying to hide it).
TNA: If one of your books were going to be made into a movie, which book would you choose, and who would you choose to cast in the leading roles? Why?
Garrett: Again, I’d have to choose Only Love, but only because I’ve never found faces to fit Ash and Pete from Slide.
For Jed I’d choose the late Paul Walker. Max…perhaps a healthy mix of Michael Ealy and Evan Ross.
TNA: You’ve written quite a few books since your first published novelette, Gypsy Rain, was released back in the summer of 2013. As a multi-published author now, what would you say are some of the most important things you’ve learned over the course of the past year?
Garrett: Not to get bogged down with internet bullshit when I could be writing! And, no matter what, to keep on writing, even if it’s just a little every day. You can’t edit and market what ain’t wrote. :)
TNA: If I’m not mistaken, I believe I saw that you’re currently revisiting the story and are planning to expand it to a full length novel. What made this particular story, and its characters, one you felt needed to be further explored?
Garrett: I decided to revisit Gypsy Rain because Dex’s character wouldn’t leave me alone. Lots of readers asked me what had become of him…where he’d come from in the first place, and I decided I couldn’t live without knowing. Gypsy Rain was pulled from sale earlier this year and expanded from 9000 words to a full length novel of 70000 words. It has been retitled Heart, and is out with Dreamspinner Press as of October 27th.
TNA: Would you care to share some information on some of your other upcoming projects with us?
Garrett: Oooh, I have lots coming up. Like I said, Heart is coming/came out October 27th with Dreamspinner Press. In December/January Dreamspinner will begin releasing my new series Heated Beat, starting with My Mate Jack, and then Lucky Man, in March next year. Also next year, I have ménage novel, Misfits, out with Riptide. Exciting times. I know I’m lucky to have so many opportunities in this ever-growing genre.
TNA: Garrett, it’s been a pleasure having you here. Will you share with us all the places we can find you on the internet?
Blurb for Slide: Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…
Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.
Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.
Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away. Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.
