Blurb: A gift—or curse—gives Titus McGinty the unwanted ability to talk to ghosts. When he starts seeing the same few apparitions repeatedly, appearing with similar gruesome injuries, he begins to wonder what they want from him.

Detective Charlie Hale has a serial killer on his hands. On the loose for weeks, the Queen City Slayer has left the police nothing to go on, no forensic evidence other than what he wants found. The city is running out of time.

The crisis brings Titus and Charlie together—Titus stumbles upon a body and finds himself a suspect. Their budding romance is tested as they are sucked into a web of underground laboratories, restive spirits, and religious fanaticism. They’ll have to work together to find the identity of the killer before he takes his next victim…Titus

Review: Shadows Fall by JK Hogan is packed full of magic, hot sex, and my favorite—a happy ending for two hot guys!

Titus Finnbar McGinty is very fast to proclaim that he can see dead people. He owns a coffee shop and employs some crazy characters that Hogan brings to life with great detail. Up until now he has been managing the dead people with an iPod and professional-grade Sennheisers. They keep the voices at bay, he says. Most of the ghosts or mules, as Titus calls them, are attached to a geographical area. Never have they followed him home or to the coffee shop. That is, until four mules become very persistent and follow him wherever he goes. Titus decides he needs help and sends a letter to his Granny Hester Faa, asking for help with controlling the mules. Granny is a powerful Chovihani (she can also see dead people), and Titus has not seen her since he was cast out of his tribe for being gay. Hester Faa is a colorful character, tough as nails. Granny comes to the rescue with her Airstream trailer in tow! When Titus told her she needed to move her trailer or she would get a ticket, her response was “Who cares what they think? They give me tickets, I wallpaper my trailer with them.” Great character development!

Detective Charles Hayes is a homicide police officer and a patron of the coffee shop, who happens to be working on the case, which Titus figures out is the ghosts that have attached themselves to him. When the serial killer strikes again, and a ghost of the victim leads Titus to his body, Titus calls Charlie for help. Charlie and Titus become very close as Charlie is helping Titus through the trauma. As Titus puts it, “I see the dead all the time, but I’d never actually seen a dead body before.”

One thing that really stood out for me is that JK Hogan puts a lot into developing her secondary characters. They aren’t just extras; they actually helped move the story along and played important roles in supporting both Titus and Charlie. Shadows Fall is not a fast read. It’s a well thought out story with lots of twists and turns. I highly recommend it, and I am really hoping she continues the story!
