Me: “Hello guys. How are you today?” I smile as I watch them, these two star struck lovers. Kai is looking over at Luca who’s sitting next to him on my couch who is currently completely unaware of the way his boyfriend is watching him like he can’t stop. We are in my suite at the Hilton, the view overlooking downtown Austin, Texas. I’m there solely to interview these two lovers, whose paths I crossed by pure accident when covering a LGBT rally at A & M.

Kai: “We’re good thank you!” He tear his eyes away, reluctantly, to look at me and at the same time he reaches out to take Luca’s hand, their fingers entwine.

Luca: “Yes, everything is fantastic. Thank you!” He’s this adorable thing, everything you expect a young Swedish man to look like. He’s tall, far from skinny but slim built and these piercing blue eyes.

Me: “So, I asked you guys here to talk about you, your lives here in Texas, what you do, your plans and your love. How do you feel about that Kai?”

Kai: He smiles, looks at Luca again something he does often. “Talking about Luca is my favorite thing so ask away I’ll answer anything as long as it isn’t too private of course.” He winks at me but I can see too that there’s truth to his words.

Me: “Of course, I’ll keep it as clean as I can.” I smile and give them a humorous wink to show that I am teasing. “How about you start off with telling me how you met?” They look at each other, chuckling a little. It’s fascinating to watch these two because they move in symbiosis always in tuned with each other never facing away but always turned towards each other. While Kai is the more relaxed and obviously more confident of the two, he is not arrogant nor is Luca shy just more careful in his sense of manner.

Kai: “I stalked Luca for weeks before approaching him and when I did he threw coffee at me.” Kai grinned as Luca gasped punching him in the arm, his face going red with embarrassment.

Luca: “I so did, not, throw coffee on you. You butthead.” He smiles, cheeks still has this pinkness to them. It can only mean there is truth to his boyfriend’s teasing accusation. “It accidentally fell out of my hand when you almost startled me to death.” Luca teases Kai back. I can’t help but to chuckle at their lovely banter back and forth it is obvious that it is said with a teasing sense and with nothing but love. Turning towards me Luca says. “We were going to the same university, I was a pre med student at that time and Kai was there for a semester doing his thesis. We did bump into each other at a local café and just hit it off.” He smiles, blindly reaching for Kai’s hand again, who gladly took it.

Me: I laugh. “It sounds like you had a good start.” Looking at Kai I ask. “What was it about Luca that made you start stalking him as you so aptly put it?”

Kai: “First time I saw him he was leaving a class as I was walking by. I stood out in a crowd of twenty and he simply took my breath away.” He watching Luca the entire time he speaks like he is remembering the day. “His eyes were down, watching the ground as he walked, so shy my dearest Luca. But I could see there was more to him than that shyness. I instantly wanted to get to know him but didn’t know for a few weeks how to approach him without scaring him off.”

Me: “Why was that you think?” Kai turns his eyes to look at me for the first time since he started to speak.

Kai: “I don’t know, it was just a hunch at that time that Luca needed to be approached a little more carefully because I can be pretty abrupt and straightforward.” Luca snorts next to him.

Me: “You agreeing with that Luca is Kai to abrupt sometimes?” I ask carefully but I am really curious to what this means and if there might be something that is keeping these two lovers on edge with each other.

Luca: “A little. Kai is what you see is what you get kind of guy. He doesn’t hide who he is for anything or anyone. It’s take it or leave it with him in most things. But he is the reason why I am here today and we are together because that is who he is and he has helped me become more like that.”

Me: “OH that is quite lovely. So you were troubled when you and Kai met then?” I know instantly that I have hit upon something, because the tension between the two is obvious. So I don’t push it instead I lean back relax and let them have their time. Kai’s entire focus is on Luca who I assume there for is the one who has a story to tell.

Luca: “When Kai and I met I wasn’t out…” Luca hesitates, lift up his glass of water and takes a sip and seems very nervous, “I wasn’t out to anyone, not even myself.” He looks at Kai before he continues who just smiles and gives his silent support. “So even though we had a good start a very intense start me not being out caused some issues that was hard for both of us to overcome.” I can see Luca is getting really uncomfortable, eyes turned down and fiddling with his fingers.

Kai: “It’s okay darlin’. I love you, hmm.” Kai is so gentle but not condescendingly so, it’s like he knows exactly what to say and how to touch him to calm him right down. He pulls Luca in close so they are sitting tight together his arm around his shoulder. “Maybe we can move on to the next question.”

Me: “Yes, of course. Just a couple more questions. Luca what attracted you to Kai and what was it about him that made you be so brave and come out to your nearest and dearest?” I smile encouragingly.Luca: “Oh boy. I mean look at him.” I look at Kai instantly. “He’s a wet city slickers dream, he’s a cowboy. Tight jeans, cowboy boots, cowboy hat and let’s not forget the sexy twang.” Luca smiled the entire time eyes gleaming with love as he spoke about his lover. “But that was just the first ten minutes, after that it was his heart.” He turns to me now. “He has this amazing heart, he doesn’t hold himself back but jumps in with both feet to give you everything and all of him. He sacrificed so much to help me. To be with me.” He looked to the side at Kai. “Everything I have is because of him and well hard work.” We all started to laugh at the same time.

Kai: “Flirt.” He accused, but looking at him I can see that he loves the attention and being that special to Kai.

Me: “OK guys last question, what’s for you guys next?” I look between them their smiles contagious.

Kai: Well, I am done with my thesis and are working on my dad’s ranch. Luca has just started his first semester of vet school so the future is working hard and do what we both love. Right darlin´?”

Luca: Yes.”

Me: “And what is what you both love?” I push wanting one of those sugar sweet answers.

Luca: “Each other and the ranch. Each other and the ranch.” They both grins wide and sitting there grinning close together and in love they are the ultimate image of true love.

Me: “Thank you so very much guys for meeting me here today and for sharing your story with me!”

Kai: “Thank you for having us.”

Luca: “It was a real pleasure meeting you.”

1 Finding Home FINAL COVERBlurb: Luca is a first year med student at the University of Gothenburg. He is following in his father’s footsteps, something he’d been programmed to do all his life. He lives a sheltered and still life, with no real friends. Luca would love to change that but doesn’t know how, since he always feels so odd around other people, like he doesn’t quite fit in. There’s so much inside him that wants out, like wanting to become a veterinarian more than a doctor. And the fact that he likes boys and not girls. But he doesn’t tell anyone about that—not even himself.

In comes Kai, an American cowboy in Gothenburg. He’s doing his thesis overseas to broaden his horizons before he does what he has always wanted to do, which is to go back home and run the family ranch. He just happens to see Luca one day leaving class and can’t stop watching the shy guy as he waded his way through the crowd with quick, silent steps, and his head down to avoid eye contact with anyone. For weeks Kai watches him from a distance, trying to figure out how to approach him.

Had he known that spilled coffee and slippery, awkward book bags would have gotten him close to the guy, he might have physically bumped into him a long time ago.

Finding Home is a book with star-crossed lovers meeting and the evil of the wicked witch in the west threatening to crush young love’s every dream!

Author BioAbout the Author: Phetra often refers to herself as the odd man out, the dorky book nerd who rather spend her time with a good book or making up fantastic stories with even more fantastic characters, than live in the real world dealing with real people.

The real world is strange in a very non humorous way and people in it complicate it to the point of wearing you out. In the world of the written word no matter if it is in someone else’s words or that of her own things might get busy, complicated, and sometime even plain painful but somewhere along the line there is always a hero on the horizon. He might not be prime or proper, a church going pretty boy since the author prefer rebellious men and women who don’t follow the protocols of society.

One of her favorite saying are that only dead fish follow the stream and well she ain’t no dead fish.

Phetra live together with her family, two children, a domestic partner and their two cats in Gothenburg, Sweden and when reading her books you will notice that she always finds a way of bringing her on culture into her books.

The joy of writing and reading comes from her childhood and is something she has always loved, something she is passionate to share with others. Phetra loves hearing from her readers even with ideas of what they want to come next.

If you are looking for her the best place to start looking for her is at home in the quietest corner of the house where you’ll find her either curled up with her Kindle or her laptop typing away.

Howdy y’all. A great big thanks to Lisa and those at The Novel Approach for letting me drop in today.

I wanted to say a little something about my newest release, My Hero: The Olympian. It is the sequel to My Hero. Johnny and Rich are back at it, this time as an established couple, something a bit different. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a book that tackles a pair that are already together.

This one picks up right where the first one left off. Although this is a standalone novel, it does help to have read the first one. Having that history behind these two, and what they went through to be together would make it a better read I do believe.

Of course, being young college men, they love food and sex and will often combine the two. For those of you who have read My Hero, you’ll understand. Yes, they are at it again.

As in the first book, the secondary characters are there and a few new ones. I do love my back up folks in a book. To me they just add depth and are always good for a laugh and good times. Not a lot of angst here, but enough to keep things interesting.

As you can tell by the excerpt, there is always a little mischief with these two. I hope you’ll take the time to get to know these two. They are a lot of fun to be around.

Thanks again for letting me bend your ear,

Max

Excerpt: “No, I’m not going to and there is nothing you can say that will make me either.” Johnny crossed his arms, a defiant look on his face, his eyes narrowed slits.

“Oh come on, John, I wear them.” Rich held up the skimpy black racing briefs. “For me?”

Johnny looked away. “No. I said no and I mean no.”

Rich leaned in close to Johnny so only he could hear. “If you wear this, I can guarantee you some of the best sex in your life. If you think I get turned on by jock straps…”

Johnny glared down at Rich. “You don’t play fair.”

“Wasn’t it you who recently said that all is fair in love and war?” Rich smirked as he dangled the tiny briefs in front of Johnny.

“It better be the best ever.” Johnny let his arms drop. “Okay. But you promised.”

Again, Rich leaned in close. “Maybe even join the mile high club.”

Johnny’s eyebrows shot up and a grin blossomed on his face. “Deal.”

“Are we done here?” Dan called to the two college men. He was standing at the counter, credit card in hand.

“One more thing, Dad.” Rich hurried over to him. “This.”

Dan raised his eyebrows slightly. “Oookay then.”

Rich snickered when he saw Johnny blushing.

“I think this will be all,” Dan said to the clerk.

“I’m going to give you a discount,” the young woman said as she rang it up. “It isn’t every day that we can say an Olympian wore some of our gear.”

“I’m not an Olympian yet,” Rich commented.

“Rich Miller, I’ve known you my entire life, and if anyone is going to be an Olympian, it’s you.” Michelle Stubbon smiled at Rich as she started putting the pile of swimsuits, track suits, shorts, and other things that he and Johnny needed for London in a bag.

“Thanks, Michelle. I appreciate the confidence everyone has in me.”

“Just remember us lowly folk when you come home with Olympic gold,” she laughed as she handed Dan the receipt.

Quirky people make life interesting. They aren’t always the easiest people to know but I truly believe they’re the ones who make a difference.  I have a little experience with quirky personalities. Okay fine… I have a lot. In my family, quirk is the norm. My people are the type who can recite memorable movie scenes on command. Their talents aren’t confined to any particular genre or generation. Just the other night, for example, my husband and sixteen year old daughter did an impromptu Judy Garland/Barbra Streisand duet of “Happy Days”. They fought briefly over who got to sing which part, but once they’d agreed, it was flawless.  And hysterical. Who else has to ask Judy and Barbra to keep down in order to get any work done? They’re blessed with fantastic comedic timing or at least the panache to fake it with flair if their audience doesn’t follow along.

Every family trip has been immortalized in at least one goofball song or memorable moment. Like skipping through Central Park or singing Frank Sinatra songs while trudging up a steep slope in San Francisco. Most of the time these memories are the type that are really difficult to explain because let’s face it, the retelling of said stories makes us sound… weird.  But I don’t care. I’ve discovered over the years that it is ultimately much more fulfilling to embrace quirkiness than to sit around scratching your head wondering why people can’t just act “normal”.

In Better Than Safe, Seth is the ultimate oddball. He is a quandary Paul doesn’t understand. He never looks the same twice. One day he’s dressed in haute couture, the next he looks like a punk ass college kid. He’s flighty, whimsical and can never seem to arrive anywhere in a timely manner. For a serious minded advertisement executive like Paul, Seth is a bad bet. Hanging out with an adventurous artist with a nimble mind might be fun for an afternoon, not for life. But there’s something compelling about Seth and Paul can’t seem to stay away.  For the first time in a while, he begins to wonder if Seth might be a chance worth taking. Sure, he’s a little a crazy sometimes but maybe he’s better than safe.

Personally, I love funny oddballs. I know many… well. I’ve learned to laugh at what used to confuse me. Now when my son dresses in a velvet jacket with tennis shorts on a warm summer day, I smile. I’d rather surround myself with people who think for themselves and redefine their world creatively than with those who are afraid to color outside the lines. It can be a little scary on the other side, but it’s a helluva lot more fun!

Thank you for having me on your blog today! Happy Reading!

Author: Lane Hayes

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

Cover Artist: Aaron Anderson

Length: Novel, 77k words

Release Date: September 25th, 2015

Blurb: Paul Fallon is a fashion advertising guru. He’s a genius at dealing with difficult editors, art directors, and designers alike. He thrives on the chaotic atmosphere and constant challenges. But in his personal life, he’s hoping for peace and stability. Settling down with a nice doctor or lawyer sounds perfect. Anyone but an artist. He’s been there, done that, and he doesn’t want to relive the heartache.

Seth Landau is a model, occasional guitarist, and aspiring painter. He’s quirky, flighty, and wise beyond his years. Life has taught him some tough lessons, then given him opportunities he never dreamed of. He’s learned to appreciate the fragility of life and to express it in his work. Seth’s flare for the absurd combined with a supple mind and a beautiful body are too alluring for Paul to ignore. Against his best intentions, Paul is drawn to the younger man whose particular brand of crazy challenges Paul to accept that things aren’t always as they seem. Sometimes taking a chance is better than being safe.

Q: What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Rowan: That’s one I don’t need to think about. Astrin Raphael. It’s crazy how far we’ve swung. I hated him for so long, and looking back I have no idea why. It’s so strange to think that I hated him for so much longer than I’ve loved him. I’m working on that one.

Q: What is your favourite journey?

Rowan: Well, this is a no–brainer also. The journey Astrin and I took into the heart of enemy country to rescue his father and my uncle. Again with hindsight I can hardly believe it ever happened. Was I really that stupid to get caught up with Astrin’s whole ‘vision’ think? It could all have ended in disaster but, even with the danger, the uncertainty, and almost losing Astrin, it was absolutlely the time of my life. We camped, we partied, we got caught up in a revolution, we spent the night in a tent city in the desert. I’ve never felt so alive.

Q: What is your most marked characteristic?

Rowan: My temper, I guess. And my impulsiveness. According to my uncle they’re a dangerous combination, and they’ve got me into trouble more than once.

Q: When and where were you the happiest?

Rowan: Here and now. *Glances over at Astrin, who’s talking animatedly to some of the guys. A look of dreamy intensity crosses Rowan’s face, until Astrin glances up and they both freeze for a moment. Astrin looks away first, a delicate blush colouring his pale face* Yeah. Right here. Right now.

Q: What is it that you most dislike?

Rowan: Stupid people. Really, I’ve got no patience for stupidity. Or people who want to spoil things for others. *Glances at Astrin* Okay, yeah, I was one of those, but… Actually, I was stupid and I wanted to spoil things for someone else, but Astrin saved me from myself.

Q: What is your greatest fear?

Rowan: That I lose Astrin. My whole world turned upside down when he came into my life. Everything changed and without him I’d be lost. I gave up everything for him, and gladly, but without him where would I go? What would I do?

Q: Tell me something about Astrin

Rowan: He’s amazing. I can hardly believe that when all this started he was only seventeen. It’s always been easy to forget he’s almost two years younger than I am. He’s the one with the level head, with all the resourcefulness. He’s always so calm and sensible, and it’s amazing how he always seems to know exactly the right thing to say and do. *Rowan chuckles* House Gabriel is supposed to be the one that has the gifts with diplomacy and leadership. I think in this case, Astrin got all my share of that, as well as all his Raphael sweetness.

Q: What is your greatest regret?

Rowan: That Astrin was hurt because of me. I was such a blind, angry fool. I wouldn’t listen to anyone but my anger, and it took Astrin almost dying for me to realize how stupid and wrong I was. I treated him appallingly in the first days. He was lost, confused and ill, and I abused him. I convinced him he was a bad person, that he was worthless, when absolutely the opposite was true. I’m utterly ashamed of how I acted and I’m in awe that Astrin was able to get past that so quickly and completely. He’s the best person I know.

Q: Which living person do you most admire?

Rowan: Apart from Astrin, my uncle Charles. He’s always looked out for me, and has had a far clearer vision of what I am and what I could become, than I have. He was our greatest champion because he could see that Astrin was the one who brought me to my full potential, as I do to him.

Q: What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Rowan: Chastity *Grins*

Q: On what occasions do you lie?

Rowan: Astrin hates lying. I’m more…open minded. Lying has its place. Even Astrin lies sometimes, but only when he absolutely has to, usually in a diplomatic way. As far as I know Astrin has never lied to me. Have I lied to him? Um….

Q: Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

Rowan: *Glances at Astrin and chuckles* You’re such hard work, Raphael.

Q: What is your motto?

Rowan: Motto? I don’t think I have a motto. I guess it would be something like ‘Grab life by the throat and try not to put your foot in it’

*Astrin appears at his side and burrows under his arm. “Maybe you’d do better with something like ‘Think before you act’*

Well yeah, but that might take away my impulsive charm.

*Astrin reaches up to pat his cheek* “Don’t worry. I’ll always find you charming.”

HostageLGBlurb: Astrin Raphael wakes up in a strange place, frightened and confused. He is told to trust someone who seems to hate him, and he tries—he really tries. However, things change rapidly when he discovers his friend is actually his archenemy, Rowan Gabriel, whose abusive behavior stems from a deeply ingrained, if unwarranted, hatred over something that happened many years before, and simply wasn’t Astrin’s fault.

When Rowan’s uncle and Astrin’s father are kidnapped by Strebo Michael, the two crown princes are catapulted into an adventure that forces them to work together, and along the way their feelings for each other grow. Rowan is quick to let his hate go, but Astrin can’t release his inhibitions. It takes Astrin almost dying from a poisoned dagger before he finally accepts Rowan’s love.

When they return home, their problems continue as their Houses try to negotiate a way for the young men to be together. It soon becomes clear at least one of them will need to relinquish his throne.

AboutTheAuthor Creative Minds

Cheryl Headford was born into a poor mining family in the South Wales Valleys. Until she was sixteen, the toilet was at the bottom of the garden and the bath hung on the wall. Her refrigerator was a stone slab in the pantry, and there was a black lead fireplace in the kitchen. They look lovely in a museum but aren’t so much fun to clean.

Cheryl has always been a storyteller. As a child, she’d make up stories for her nieces, nephews, and cousin, and they’d explore the imaginary worlds she created, in play.

Later in life, Cheryl became the storyteller for a reenactment group who traveled widely, giving a taste of life in the Iron Age. As well as having an opportunity to run around hitting people with a sword, she had an opportunity to tell stories of all kinds, sometimes of her own making, to all kinds of people. The criticism was sometimes harsh, especially from the children, but the reward enormous.

It was there she began to appreciate the power of stories and the primal need to hear them. In ancient times, the wandering bard was the only source of news and the storyteller the heart of the village, keeping the lore and the magic alive. Although much of the magic has been lost, the stories still provide a link to the part of us that wants to believe that it’s still there, somewhere.

In present times, Cheryl lives in a terraced house in the Valleys with her son, dog, hamster, and two cats. Her daughter has deserted her for the big city, but they’re still close. She’s never been happier since she was made redundant and is able to devote herself entirely to her twin loves of writing and art.

Reality Shows

Last year my children got hooked on Master Chef Junior.  We watched these amazing kids chop, sauté, and bake their way to a huge prize, and they gained the admiration of three world-class chefs. From that point on, my kids watched all the cooking reality shows on Netflix. All of them. We watched Cake Boss and Chopped and Cupcake Wars and others. We talked excitedly of cooking our own delightful, homemade meals, all the while stuffing our faces with delivery pizza and popcorn.

My children have moved on to other television shows. My son loves anime. My daughters love to go to You Tube and watch Shopkins videos (if you don’t know what those are— be grateful!). It made me miss the cooking shows. It made me miss the times where we gathered as a family and rooted for our favorite contestants.

So like all good writers who are missing something, I decided to create my own version of it.

In my new release, Lovers, Losers, and You, Andrew decides to enter a reality cooking contest. I had a lot of fun taking bits and pieces from all the shows I’d watched with my kids, and best of all, I asked my kids to describe their dream judges for my fictitious show. Even though they are too young to read my book, I hope someday they read it and smile, knowing I based the judges on their descriptions.

The other fun part of creating a reality show is that I barely cook. Oh,  I grill. I microwave with the best of them, and I’m an expert at takeout from Japanese to Mexican food. But cooking from scratch? Yeah, not so much.

Again I turned to family and friends who do cook for ideas. I was fortunate enough to know somebody who owns a café, like my main character in the novel.  When I think of this book, I will think of how lucky I am to have such wonderful people in my life sharing their ideas with me.

I still enjoy reality television, especially when the show revolves around a talented person.

What about you? Do you love or hate reality television? Is it a guilty pleasure? Or something that you shun? Or maybe you are somewhere in-between the two extremes?

Thanks for hosting me!

A lot of people ask me the same question all the time, why male romance? This whole journey began in 2010 while I was watching a soap opera. The gay couple on the show was written so beautifully, I fell in love with them immediately. I began writing fan fiction once the show was cancelled and posted a chapter a day. For two years I wrote stories on the fan site until one day, an avid reader told me I should publish a book. I wrote A Marked Man a few months later and then three more books after that. I sent A Marked Man to a few publishing houses and one of them was very interested. After checking out their offer, I was pointed towards Kindle Direct Publishing and decided to go that route.

I haven’t looked back.

I’ve written thirty-three books and I have no plans to stop. I have a few more books in the Assassin/Shifters and about 7 more in the Olympians. I also have two more books in The Men of Manhattan Series plus the five in Rock Series. I am panning one more book in the Angel series to follow up with Second Time Around and Gabriel’s Fall.

The Idea of FRET came when another author wanted to do an anthology about Rockers/Actors. Well, my mind jumped all over that and FRET was born. Writing FRET was so much fun, as I was hanging out with a band in Flagstaff and got to hear all about their touring life. I am still taking drum lessons and will begin guitar lessons again soon. I now live in the town I’m writing about and love it!

I’m really excited to bring you FRET. I’ve spent the last 3 months researching bands, instruments and talking/spending time with Aarin, Mikey and Doug of “No Other Option”. I came across them while looking for a band to sit down and talk with. Well, I found them and knew I didn’t need to look any further. They’ve been included in the book with speaking parts because they are Just. That. Awesome.

Part of the proceeds of the books sales are going to Aarin’s soon-to-be-mother-in-law to help her in her fight against breast cancer. There are few things in my life that I feel I have to contribute to, finding a cure for cancer in any form is at the top of my list. I hope that you all come to love Gareth and Axel as much as I do and continue to read about them in the next four books. Hang in there, so much more is coming!

Fret is the story of Gareth Wolf, lead guitarist of the band “Skull Blasters”. After coming out as gay in the papers, Gareth gets himself a stalker. Fearful for Gareth’s safety, the bands manager calls in a bodyguard.

Enter Axel Blaze.

Axel is a former Navy SEAL that doesn’t do feelings or emotions. Raised in a military environment, Axel never really made friends or had relationships. When the two come together, sparks fly—and not the good kind at first

Stay tuned for much, much more!!

Dividers

Fret_Sandrine_FSBlurb: Former Navy SEAL Axel Blaze lives a solitary life. He doesn’t do emotions, and he doesn’t do babysitting. Used to being on his own, his job consists of Wetwork (a charming term coined by the KGB) for his former Master Chief, Mac. When an out-of-the-ordinary job lands on his doorstep, Axel heads down a path that includes a famous heavy metal rock band and one quiet, vulnerable, guitar-shredding virtuoso named Gareth Wolf.

Gareth Wolf’s life changed in an instant when a car he was a passenger in crashed, hurting his brother’s best friend and the band’s lead guitarist. They created the band, Skull Blasters, as kids. Gareth had always been happy in the background, playing roadie. With the lead guitarist’s injury, Gareth is suddenly thrust into the limelight and into a frenzied life he never imagined for himself. Finally fed up with living a lie, Gareth comes out as gay in a newspaper interview and finds himself in the bulls-eye of a crazed stalker. Somebody wants Gareth hurt – or worse – and Mac has been hired to be sure that doesn’t happen. Babysitting duty is NOT Axel’s strong suit, but Mac won’t be budged.

Enter Axel Blaze. Against his better judgment, the big man takes the job to protect the shy musician. The more time he spends with Gareth Wolf, the more he admires the man. Where’s a simple assassination when you need one? The situation becomes more volatile for each man as the attempts on Gareth escalate just as Axel finds himself falling for the quiet lead guitarist.

Strong, funny, smart-ass — and kinda sweet Axel is everything Gareth has ever wanted in a man. Too bad he’s off limits. As the stalker grows bolder, Gareth and Axel move closer emotionally – but is it too late? All Axel knows is that they don’t stand a chance if he can’t find the maniac trying to kill the man he’s come to care about. A  lot.

Everyone knows that relationships that begin in pressured or volatile situations eventually fizzle out.

Or do they?

Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me as I celebrate the release of Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts, my sweet little contemporary romance! Here to give you a few dating tips is Spencer Morgan, brownie baker extraordinaire. Take it away Spencer!

***

Hello! I’m Spencer Morgan, but my friends call me Spence. I’m not really here to give you dating tips because, well, the last time I successfully dated a guy, pagers were all the rage. So yeah. However, I can use my recent experience with a certain gruff, Cuban SWAT officer to offer a few Do’s and Don’ts.

Do: always have tasty food on hand because toast is the only thing he can cook, and even then you run the risk of ending up with pieces of flat coal and a call to the fire department.

Don’t: assume that because he can drink Cuban coffee five times a day without turning radioactive that the same skills apply to you. The smell is enough to get you wired for the rest of the day.

Do: be aware he will always walk in on you during the most awkward and unexpected situations. It’s like radar.

Don’t: forget to put on pants when baking. See my previous comment on his talent for awkward timing.

Do: remember that his mom can be telepathically summoned. The mere thought or mention of her is enough to get her to call or visit.

Don’t: ignore a phone call from his mother. Not unless you want an army-sized family or actual army officers sent out to find you and rescue you from whatever catastrophe has befallen you as that is the only acceptable reason for having ignored her call.

Do: remember not to eat any breakfast or lunch when his parents are bringing dinner as you’ll be consuming large quantities of delicious food and then given more food once you’ve cleared your plate. You will also have enough leftovers for the week, so make sure you leave room in your fridge.

Don’t: have more than one slice of Tres Leches for dessert unless you’re looking to become diabetic. If you’re already diabetic, walk away slowly. The sight alone may be enough to cause harm. Unless you’re his mom and then somehow your diabetes is afraid of you and one slice is fine.

Do: give him lots of kisses and cuddles, even when he’s being a grump. Especially when he’s being a grump because chances are he’s trying to tell you he’d like you to lavish affection on him, which is pretty much the majority of the time. :)

Don’t: assume that because you don’t see him that he can’t see you. He loves appearing out of nowhere, scaring the life out of you, and pretending he was there the whole time. It is however worth the scare when you pout and he makes it all better.

So there you have it. These should help you on your road to romance. Maybe. Keep in mind that I kind of suck at directions and have a habit of getting lost, so you might want a map or GPS. Okay, this analogy’s getting away from me. Thanks for joining me!

Spencer sweeps into Quinn’s life like a tropical storm of sunshine and rainbows. Not surprisingly, it’s chaos at first sight. Road Trips

Hi. Nic Starr here. Thanks for having me visit as I release my latest novel, Andrew’s Promise. Andrew’s Promise is a story about dashed dreams and second chances. It’s about making sacrifices.

If you read Charlie’s Hero, the first book in the series, you’d know Andrew gave up on his dreams, everything accept having his little brother by his side. One of his dreams had been to restore a Mustang and take a road trip across the USA with his best friend, Tanner.

Although Andrew’s Promise isn’t a road trip book, I had a lot of fun checking out road trips. There are some great sites on the web, and did you know Pinterest was full of road trip images? Just checking out the maps and photos made me add a US road trip to my bucket list. *crosses finger to win the lotto*

I live in Australia where we are blessed with a beautiful country—it’s huge with tremendous variation in the landscape. I’ve been lucky enough to see the arid Red Centre, venture into ancient forests, drive through miles of rural countryside and drive along endless stretches of coastline with the glorious beaches and amazing reefs.

One day I hope to see more of the world. I’d love to venture through Europe, safari in Africa, and do that USA trip. In the meantime, I’m allowing my characters to live my dreams which is nearly as good. (okay, not really *wink*)

I hope you are inspired by some of the books you read and find something exciting to add to your own bucket list.

Happy reading,

Nic xx

AndrewsPromiseFSBlurb: Young mechanic Andrew Campbell’s life couldn’t be better. He is about to restore a Ford Mustang with his dad before heading off on the ultimate cross-country road trip with his best friend, Tanner McKenzie.

But tragedy strikes, and Andrew’s life is shattered.  Worried his family will be torn apart if he doesn’t step in, Andrew makes a tough choice between following his heart and doing what he needs to do to protect his little brother.

When Andrew pushes Tanner away, Tanner heads off on the planned trip alone. Once Tanner leaves town, his life takes a different path and it’s ten years before he returns. Now a firefighter, he’s never forgotten his first love, and no one has ever taken Andrew’s place in his heart. He’s determined to see if Andrew feels the same way. He just hopes Andrew’s excited to see him, hopes that he’s available—and finally out—after all this time.

They might not have been ready to deal with emerging feelings years ago, but now might be the time for their second chance at love.

Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me as I celebrate the release of the fifth book in the THIRDS series, Against the Grain. Today I’m going to chat a little bit about Therians across the globe.

As some of you may know, Therians were born from the use of chemical warfare during the Vietnam War. A virus was released and when unsuspecting troops returned home all across the globe, the infection spread. Using strains of animals immune to the virus, scientists created a vaccine, unaware of the dormant mutation within the virus. This mutation gave birth to Therians. Although hundreds of thousands died, those who survived passed their mutation onto their children. In 1976 the mutation perfected itself, resulting in First Generation Therians. Sloane and Ash are both First Gens.

Any Therian born before First Gens are known as Pre First Gens, and they have many health issues varying in severity caused by the mutation. Seb and Rafe are Pre First Gens, both born tiger Therians due to their father having fought in Vietnam and becoming infected, becoming a tiger Therian.

When the virus broke out, it spread across the globe. Wherever there are people, there are Therians. When the United States created Therian Legislation and the Therian branch of government, many other countries did the same. The Therian Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron first opened its doors on US soil, but as a separate military funded organization, soon the THIRDS began to branch out across the world. Every country has its own THIRDS organization. The number of branches depends on how big the country is and the Therian population.

Whatever country you live in, there’s a THIRDS organization, some very prominent. London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Mumbai, Osaka, Mexico City, Seoul, Cairo, Moscow, Mila, Taipei, Beijing—just to name a few—hold their country’s THIRDS HQ. Although each country runs their THIRDS differently, their goal is a common one: justice and equality for Humans and Therians.

Unfortunately, there are parts of the world where the THIRDS is non-existent, as Therians have limited rights. Not all countries have embraced their Therian citizens, refusing to allow Therians to be considered equals. The laws are far stricter and in some cases just being a Therian in that country is dangerous. In the United States, Therians are marked. Next to this tattoo on their necks, the only physical feature that makes them recognizable as Therians are their eyes. When the light hits them in the right way, their eyes reflect the light, making it look as if their eyes are glowing, just like the eyes of animals, allowing them to see in the dark. In some parts of the world, they use light as a way to identify Therians, arresting them for breaking laws which would not apply to Humans.

Since Therians have only been around forty-odd years, the Humanity is still coming to grips with no longer being the dominant species. The world has a long way to go, but it’s moving in the right direction.

Hiya! Thank you for having me and welcome to Little Mowbury :)

I thought I’d take you on a little tour of the village today so you can get a feel for the place. It won’t take long and we can stop off at the Thatcher’s and get a drink on the way back…

The High Street is basically what it sounds like, the main street that runs through the centre of the village. The post office-cum-corner shop is run by Doris Abernathy. She might be in her sixties, but she’s definitely Queen Bee, in her own mind anyway. Jenny Lewis might have something to say about that. She and Doris have had a personal feud for thirty years, not that either of them can remember what they’re feuding about and appear to get along quite well when the mood takes them.

Keep going down the High Street and you’ll get to the village surgery where Malcolm Winslow has been GP since God was a boy. But, after much nagging and possibly threats of physical damage from his wife, Violet, he’s hanging up his spurs, which is where one of the main character’s of Un-Deniable steps in. Oliver Bradford has been working in a London hospital for years and, after a difficult break-up, is urged by his sister to apply for the vacancy in Little Mowbury. Little does he know that moving to the village is going to change his life forever—in more ways than he could have ever imagined.

On we go past the lovely little cottages and tiny lanes that branch off the High Street and, at the end of the High Street we find the village green, with the pub on one side and the church on the other. The annual cricket match is held on the green and the entire village is either watching or playing. Little Mowbury hasn’t won in almost thirty years, but they live in hope.

The Thatcher’s Arms is the heart and soul of the village. Owned by Colin and Maggie Mason, you can expect a cold pint and a warm welcome, but woe be tide you if you get on the wrong side of Maggie. She has a caustic tongue and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Jason Havers is one of the chefs and has been cooking up a storm since he moved in a while back.

The surrounding farms are on the outskirts of the village, one of which is Wells Farm, which belongs to the other main character in Un-Deniable, Deano Wells. The farm has been in his family for three generations and he’s never been further out of Little Mowbury than the nearest town. Every Thursday you’ll find him in the Thatcher’s Arms having liver and bacon for his lunch. It’s a family tradition started by his father when Deano was just ten years old and he didn’t see the need to change it after his father passed on. Deano is the strong silent type and never expected the new GP to come crashing into the village like he did, turning Deano’s world upside down and making him feel things he hadn’t felt in a very long time. He tries to ignore the good doctor but, Oliver Bradford doesn’t seem to take no for an answer.

I hope you enjoyed our little traipse through the village and that little peek behind the twitching curtains. Anyway, come on, let’s get that pint I promised you. We could probably even get Jason to rustle us something delicious for lunch. He’s been dying to try his seafood linguine out on somebody, so brace yourself.

Un-Deniable jpgBlurb: Little Mowbury is a sleepy English village deep in the Cotswolds. The kind of village where you’re only a local if your lineage can be traced back to the dinosaurs. Where you can find everything in the single village shop from morning newspapers to dry-cleaning, and getting your shoes mended. And, of course, where everybody knows everybody else’s business. It’s easy to find… you can’t miss it… just ask anyone and they’ll tell you… “It’s left at the crossroads.”

Oliver Bradford has had enough of the hustle and bustle of the A&E department in a big city hospital. Not to mention the tension caused by the break-up of his three year relationship with one of the hospital’s top surgeons. When his sister urges him to apply for the position of GP in the quiet village of Little Mowbury, he wonders if this might be just the fresh start he needs. Unfortunately, hitting the post-mistresses’ dog with his car isn’t the best introduction to his patients.

A solitary soul, Deano Wells grew up in Little Mowbury and has been having lunch at the Thatcher’s Arms on a Thursday for the last thirty-five years. First with his father, who brought him to the pub at the tender age of ten after a hard morning in the fields, and then by himself after his father passed on. He runs the farm with a practised hand and minds his business mostly, but that doesn’t stop Oliver from being drawn to the big, quiet man and he knows the feeling is mutual, so why does Deano keep pushing him away?

Thanks to Ash’s skills and the help of his team, they finally put an end to the murdering extremist group for good, though not before Ash takes a bullet to save teammate Cael Maddock. As a result, Ash’s secrets start to surface, and he can no longer ignore what’s in his heart.

Cael Maddock is no stranger to heartache. As a Recon Agent for Destructive Delta, he has successfully maneuvered through the urban jungle that is New York City, picking up his own scars along the way. Yet nothing he’s ever faced has been more of a challenge than the heart of Ash Keeler, his supposedly straight teammate. Being in love isn’t the only danger he and Ash face as wounds reopen and new secrets emerge, forcing them to question old loyalties.

Excerpt: “You should have seen him,” Dex said with a laugh. “He looked so adorable with his cheetah fuzz shaped into spikes, from his head down to his back. Like a little spotted punk rocker.”

Maddock shook his head at Dex. “It took me two hours to wash all the hair spray off your brother’s fur.”

“We were pretending to be Guns N’ Roses,” Cael explained. “Dex was singing ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ and I was backup sing—er, chirping.”

Ash laughed and playfully bumped Cael’s shoulder. “I’m going to have to agree with Dex. That’s adorable.” Even in his Therian form, Ash thought Cael was the sweetest thing he’d ever laid eyes on. Cael could be in his Therian form among thousands of cheetahs, and Ash would be able to point him out. His little gestures, the heart shape of his nose, or the way he chirped away, as if anyone not in their Therian form might understand him if he tried hard enough.

Dex grabbed Sloane’s arm. “Tell me you recorded that. Doesn’t matter. I have witnesses.” Dex stood and motioned to all of them. “Witnesses! You all heard it. Ash said he agrees with me.”

“Oh, good Lord. We’re never going to hear the end of this,” Maddock sighed, getting up to clear the dishes.

“Do you realize how epic this moment is?” Dex said, helping clear up.

“It’s not really that epic,” Maddock replied.

Dex let out an exaggerated gasp. “Where have you been living? Ash Keeler has agreed with something I, Dexter J. Daley, has said.”

“About your brother being adorable. Not exactly earthshattering. He’s thought that since they met.”

The table fell into silence as they all gaped at Maddock. Well, this was news to Ash. What the hell? Seeming to notice the quiet, or more likely the lack of Dex talking, Maddock looked up.

“What are you, fish? Close your mouths.”

Adding a Dash of Culture

Often my characters are doing the things most of us do—eating out, playing sport, listening to music, catching up with friends. They play computer games, watch movies and attend concerts. Sometimes I like to remove them from their comfort zone and get them to try something a little different.

Take Charlie and Josh, from Charlie’s Hero, for instance. They aren’t really into classical music, but Charlie gets some free tickets to a concert so he asks Josh on a date. Neither of them know what to expect. Charlie’s wants to make a good impression in front of Josh, so he researched the etiquette for attending a classical concert (isn’t Google wonderful for this sort of stuff?) but Josh had no idea.

Image courtesy of Suat Eman at FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Image courtesy of Suat Eman at FreeDigitalPhotos.net

I drew on my own experience when capturing Josh’s response to the concert – the atmosphere, the other patrons, the music, the overall experience.  My husband loves the symphony. So much so, that he subscribes to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. To be perfectly honest, it’s not really my thing. I go every now and then but usually he finds someone else to take. I much prefer getting escort duty and accompanying my teenage daughters to their type of concerts. :)

I do have one favourite piece of classical music. It’s Marche Slave by Tchaikovsky. Click here if you want to check it out on YouTube.

You might also be interested in checking out a more modern orchestral piece. It’s what I’m listening to as I write this post. This piece—click here—is Eclogue No.6 by Dirk Caber – just knowing it was written by Dirk makes it more interesting. :)

Will Charlie and Josh ever fall in love with classical music? If they’re anything like me, I don’t think so. However, it’s good to expand your horizons and enjoy something new. You never know unless you give it a try.

Happy reading,

Nic xx

MASATO & ICHIRO-14-2015-GOLDYAOI, M/M ROMANCE AND THE HISTORY OF THE BISHOUNEN

While researching my yaoi romance novel, Dojo Boys: Dragon & Crow, I was as astounded at the depth of history relating to romanticized sex between males, which led to Japan’s current yaoi empire. I was also struck by how the development of yaoi and male-male romance in the East and West appeared to reflect the liberation of women in both cultures. What is now a rapidly growing group of females who read, write and relish in romantic tales of homoerotic sex between men, may in fact have started as women’s quiet rebellion against each society’s antiquated ideals of females. The Japanese history of the bishounen and of romanticized sex between men who are not necessarily homosexual is vast and during the five- week blog hop of Dojo Boys: Dragon and Crow, I’ll be sharing some of what I learned through a series of posts. I hope you’ll join me on this fascinating journey.

PART TWO: THE WAKASHŪ AND THE SAMURAI

During the Edo period (1600-1857), the pinnacle of samurai culture, male-male love was genuinely regarded as, virtuous, admirable and heroic. The equivalent of the male-male sexual bond between a monk and his acolyte, which I reviewed in my last post, was that of the wakashū and the samurai. A relationship known as shūdo, the abbreviated term for wakashūdo or “the way of the youth.”

D-&-C-VOL-1-800X1200-COVERIn the samurai class it was customary for young boys to undergo martial arts training by apprenticing to an experienced male warrior. These preadolescent and adolescent-aged wakashū served their samurai lords until their coming-of-age-ceremony, which could take place any time between the ages of 15 and 22. The samurai would teach the youth martial skills, warrior etiquette, and the samurai code of honor and if the youth agreed, would enter into a sexual relationship with him.

The samurai’s desire to be a good role model for his wakashū would lead him to behave more honorably himself, while the wakashu’s agreement to have a sexual relationship with his samurai served as an expression of his compassion and his willingness to ease and share whatever angst or burden his teacher carried. Thus a shudō relationship was considered to have a mutually ennobling effect. Both parties were expected to be loyal unto death and although sex between the couple was expected to end when the boy came of age, the relationship would, ideally, develop into a lifelong bond of friendship.

Wakashu wore a distinctive hairstyle: a small shaved portion on the crown of the head and long forelocks at the front. They were permitted to wear long sleeved kimonos, bright colors and flower prints and makeup. Often employed by noble households as pageboys, in addition to looking decorative and accompanying their lord to bed, the wakashu’s duties included entertaining their lord and his guests with music, dance or poetry. But unlike the monastic chigo, a wakashu was expected to train diligently in the martial arts and fight when necessary. A wakashu might wear face powder and bright kimonos, but he still personified the embryonic stage of the fearsome warrior. These wakashu “bishōunen” were often cast in homoerotic tales, which recounted the fearless duels, vendettas, murders and ritual suicides they enacted at the behest of their samurai lord.

D&C-VOL-2-800X1200-COVERSurviving texts on the topic of shūdo suggest the valued characteristics of a desirable wakashū were: fair skin, long glossy black hair, red lips, flushed cheeks, and graceful movement. They also list the ages at which a boy may be loved. A boy is a “blossoming flower” between ages 10 and 13, a “flourishing flower” at the peak of beauty, between ages 13 and 16, and the embodiment of “mature love” between 16 and 19. After 20 the young adult males were considered “falling flowers”. Between the inevitable onset of adulthood and the possibility of a violent end, the beauty of the wakashu was fleeting and they were often compared to a sakura or cherry blossom, Japan’s exquisite symbol of “extreme beauty and quick death”.

Sigh … the romantic angst that led to yaoi and fictional m/m romance is inspiring, no?

Blog hop with me for my next post, THE SHOGUN AND THE TEMPLE DANCER, where I take a look at the young shogun whose male-male romance with a lowborn temple dancer laid the foundations of Japan’s Noh theatre. Between the male/male relationships in Noh and the male brothels of kabuki, well let’s just say … there was a whole lot of “smexing” going on.

I have to admit that I have a passion for werewolves. There’s something about their dual nature which appeals to me in a way that vampires don’t. That doesn’t mean to say that vampires don’t have their place but werewolves are raw and visceral, the human male combined with the animalistic nature of the wolves. Despite my reservations over the Twilight saga I thought the men/wolves pack was portrayed very well.

Of course in the M/M genre the shifters tend to be fit, young and handsome. It would be defeating the romance angle if we didn’t play up the hotness. And they change into real wolves, not the monster werewolves of the movies.

I’ve not watched many werewolf films but they all seem to change into something butt ugly. Except butts aren’t really that ugly. At least the ones I write about. I am very keen on the fuzzy butt. Anyway… moving on…

What do you prefer? Monster werewolves or guys who live in a pack and change into wolves?

One day, I’ve promised myself I’m going to write an evil werewolf because you’ve just got to, haven’t you?

So, obviously, when you’re writing a book about a thief it’s only right to binge heist movies beforehand…right? Well, I did anyway! And I have to admit, it’s one of my favorite genres. Always has been.

Tower Heist — I love Ben Stiller, so let’s start there. I just thought this was hilarious, slapstick, and still really clever! I love

The Italian Job — I have to admit I’ve never seen the original of this, but I loved the remake. My favorite was the beginning with the boat chase in Venice. I know film buffs call this one “awful” sometimes but…hey. I liked it.

Ocean’s Eleven — I haven’t seen this one in years but every time I go through vegas I stop and stare at the fountain for a little while. Loved it.

I think my favorite element of all three of these was the whole “stick it to the man” part. Where they weren’t hurting people who weren’t already hurting others. I tried to put that into all of my books. My con artists stay away from people who don’t have anything to lose, my thief goes after jewels from the excessively wealthy. They probably don’t deserve to be stolen from any more than anyone else, but it gives my characters a bit of morality:)

Family Jewels isn’t about an elaborate heist, although I’d love to write one of those one day! One of my main characters, Corbin, could rival any of the crews in those films. He’s more of a loner type, he works alone, flies under the radar, and rarely connects even with his family, who do the same thing he does. His weakness comes when he falls in love and starts to think that maybe love is more important than the hunt. And then he gets distracted… which is never a good idea.

I’ll leave you with a blurb for Family Jewels and some links to my social media accounts. :) I’m always available for questions or just to say hi!

xoxo

Author PicAbout the Author: I’m Mj O’Shea:) I grew up, and still live, in sunny Washington state and while I love to visit other places, I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home.

I spent my childhood writing stories. Sometime in my early teens, the stories turned to romance. Most of those were about me, my friends, and our favorite movie and pop stars. Hopefully, I’ve come a long way since then.

When I’m not writing, I love to play the piano, dance, cook, paint pictures, and of course read! I like sparkly girly girl things, own at least twenty different colored headbands, and I have two little dogs who sit with me when I write. Sometimes they comes up with ideas for me too…when they’re not busy napping.

Sue’s list of what not to say to an M/M romance writer

“How do you know how they… you know…”

You know, after a few years at this game I do know, but playing innocent is fun too. “What do you mean?”

“How they… um… do it.”

What are we? 12?

Do it?

I have had this conversation over more dinner tables than you can believe. I love my dinner conversation. Would they ask me this question if I was writing het? Of course not.

I usually say porn, mainly for the look on their faces. They asked first! I’m not sure what horrifies them more. The fact I watch gay porn or telling them that I talk to guys. Yes, I’ve spent a lot of time asking blokes about the technical details. Some of which I can use *g*.

Look, there’s no point writing without research. It doesn’t mean I always get it right, but there’s no point describing guys swinging on chandeliers, upside down, ‘doing it’, if it’s an impossibility.

So yes, research. And some porn.

Sue Brown: On the M/M Romance group on Facebook there is an extended thread about male and female/LGBT and straight authors. On the whole it’s a very positive thread and a great one to be involved in. I enjoyed talking to people I don’t normally connect with.

One of the topics was the difference between male and female authors in their style of writing sex. It’s impossible to generalise because there are always exceptions. For instance there are many guys who write sweet romance or romance stories with no sex at all. But I do see a difference in the way men and women write sex/lovemaking – whatever you care to call it.

I admit that as time has gone on I write less sex and more headspace. I’m interested in what makes people tick. A while ago an author in our genre took me to task over this. Men are interested in physical, not mental needs. I understand where they were coming from. However, I’ve read women authors’ sex scenes that make me wriggle and male authors’ sex scenes that were beautifully sweet. The terminology didn’t matter. It was the skill of the author writing the scene that mattered.

And that’s what it boils down to. I’ve read so many different brilliant authors, and I don’t care how they write the sex scenes. If they write it well, I’m hooked.

Ed’s humiliation increases when Marchant, the owner of a BDSM club, realizes Ed is a sub, albeit a very closeted one. Excerpt: As they got to the door, Marchant stopped. “You know, we did this the wrong way round.” When Ed gave him a blank stare, Marchant said, “We should have gone for coffee first. Now we can’t let the frozen food melt.”

Ed hadn’t contemplated going for coffee, so he wasn’t sure what Marchant was talking about. “I need to get this back home.”

“Of course you do. I tell you what, you take your food home and drive to my place. There’s a very good place for coffee near me.”

What Ed wanted to say was he was going home to spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. What he actually said was “I don’t drink coffee.”

“Oh, yes. I should have remembered. Still, you can watch me drink coffee.”

“Why are you doing this?” Ed asked, bewildered.

“Doing what?”

“Telling me what to do all the time. Giving me orders.”

Marchant smiled. “Because you like it. You respond so well when I give you an order.”

“I’m a grown man. A manager. I give the orders, not take them.”

“And it hurts your soul. Anyone can see that. You are born to serve.”

Ed shook his head so hard he felt it was in danger of toppling off. “I’m not a child, and I’m not a servant.”

“I don’t play with children, Ed. I play with men.”

Tony manages to arrange a date and happily learns Leo is funny, very toppy, and not averse to Tony’s lifestyle. As a bonus, Leo sells sex toys.

When tragedy strikes the club, Tony fears he can’t help the mourning club members, but Leo offers his unwavering support. After such a tough start, Tony believes Leo is the Dom he’s been looking for… until he catches him kissing another man.

Seth, tell us a bit about yourself:

I’m a dad of two awesome kids, and a baker. I’ve just opened my own bakery here in Newport. It’s the first time I’ve been home in 11 years, and I‘m really excited about getting it up and running.

Tell us something not many people know about you:

Well…people are only just finding out that Lucas and Ally (my kids) are actually my biological children. I think everyone just assumed when my friends were killed, they had left their children to their best friend and the kids godfather. But no, they’re mine.

Wow. How did that happen?

You really want me to go into specifics *snicker* No, really though, Shawn was unlucky enough to contract mumps while we were at college. It left him unable to have children. It kind of made sense, you know? It was the closest I would get to having children, they were my best friends, and I love all of them. So yeah, I agreed to help.

What do you dislike the most?

Things being kept from me. I’m discovering there have been a few things kept from me over the years…and I don’t know…I think maybe it would have made things so different.

Favorite music?

I’m more of a Maroon 5, Bruno Mars kind of guy. But I can be occasionally caught listening to Pink.

What’s it like to be back home?

Um…it’s been great being near my parents. And the neighbours have been fantastic.

But?

But…I just ran into someone the other day. This person is from my past and there are a lot of unresolved issues. *snorts* Not that it stopped us from practically making out like teenagers, and me agreeing to go on a date.

Do you believe in true love?

I’d like to, but if I were honest, there has only been one person I have ever loved. And things didn’t go too well when we were younger.

How are you dealing with having a Jared back in your life?

Ah, so we’re going to name the someone, fair enough. Jared is and always will be a complicated topic with me. I guess we’ll just see how it goes. A lot can change in eleven years, but it’s amazing how many things can stay the same.

Which is stronger, love or fear?

I’m hoping love, but fear can be so damn consuming.

Where can we find out more about you?

My story comes out February 7, 2015, with Reckless Lovers Press. By the end of it, I should have a real answer for your questions about true love, and love vs fear.

Jess BuffetAuthor Bio: Jess Buffett was born and raised in New South Wales, Australia. She is a mum of two, married to her high school sweetheart.

Jess is a hopeless romantic who is a huge fan of M/M and M/F romance with a happy ending—anything with hunky men in all their glory, whether they be Shifters, Vampires, Cowboys, or the boy next door.

A caffeine addict who shamefully can’t make a decent cup of coffee to save her life, Jess believes in soul mates, happily ever afters, and in love at first sight, but that sometimes people need a second or a third for the brain to catch up.

When I submitted this story I knew I was taking a risk. It’s not your conventional boy meets boy love story. Nothing about it is conventional. I’m just lucky that Dreamspinner are prepared to take chances with me and I appreciate it very much.

Much like a lot of stories of mine this started as a request from someone at least six years ago, but I’ve only just written it and nothing like the story we discussed. So I apologise to the person who asked for the story. It’s very late and not as ordered.

The Next Call is about a man who volunteers for a LGBT helpline and it’s really the story of the next call he takes, the one that changes his life.

Initially I was going to write about a man who prevents another man from committing suicide by jumping off a bridge. That was how the story was meant to be written and how it worked out in my head but as usual, nothing ever stays that way once the fingers start typing. Mark’s story is written from the heart.

I hope you enjoy it, even if it is different. Let me know.

On the blog tour I want to highlight the amazing work LGBT helplines and charities do for people who really need them. I’ve focused on the UK because that is where I live. Please take the time to look at their sites.

The first helpline has recently celebrated its fortieth birthday, having been in existence since 1974. It went from 5 hours in the evening to 24 hours a day. The London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard’s (LLGS) information and support helpline has provided support to over 3 million people, and more people seek help from the LGBT community database, www.turingnetwork.org.uk. They’ve supported people through discriminatory legislation, the AIDS crisis, and the bombing of the Admiral Duncan pub in London to name a few examples.

NextCall[The]FSBlurb:  Mark Grayson volunteers for an LGBT helpline, the same one that helped him through his teenage years. One day he takes a call from “Ricky,” a suicidal man being forced into a marriage he doesn’t want. For weeks Mark talks to Ricky and provides support, but he’s frustrated by the lack of information Ricky provides and the decisions he’s making. In the meantime, Mark starts a relationship with another volunteer. Then tragedy strikes and Mark takes time away from the helpline, but when he comes back, Ricky is waiting. Mark realizes Ricky is stronger than before and their relationship changes, but Mark isn’t sure what their future holds if their relationship is destined to be at the end of the phone.

The One Where Sue Breaks the Rules

You know and I know that I have a habit of writing difficult storylines where the characters aren’t always sympathetic. In fact, Stolen Dreams was rejected by the first publisher I submitted it to for having unsympathetic characters from the get-go. There we are. I’ve never admitted that in public before. *hangs head* I don’t mean to, honest. I just like writing men who aren’t picture perfect and who screw up (is that Brit-speak?) big-time.

Stolen Dreams, The Night Porter, Nothing Ever Happens, Falling for Ramos, Final Admission – all of them have men who don’t follow the Romance code. By the way, I really need to read the Romance code because I keep breaking the rules. Does anyone have a copy?

Sometimes I think I straddle that fence between MM romance and gay fiction. Of course I like my couples to have a Happy Ever After, but more like it’s a Happy For Now, with a possibility of an HEA, once I’ve wrung all the angst I can out of them.

Except for The Night Porter… but moving on swiftly.

I do write more fluff pieces. The Isle series, for instance, and Hairy Harry. I only make you cry in the first chapters. Aren’t I kind?

I break the rules again in Stolen Dreams. I’m sorry. I know I’m a bad, bad author. I promise to make it better next time. Oh, that’s The Next Call. Maybe not.

Excerpt: “Morgan?”

“Later, Jase,” Morgan mumbled. “Tired now.”

“Sparky, wake up.”

Grumpy from the elbow to the ribs, Morgan tried to snuggle back into sleep.

“Morgan.”

A low masculine voice Morgan would have been able to pick out in a football stadium full of screaming fans repeated his name. Morgan’s stomach rolled slowly as he opened his eyes.

Blinking a couple of times, Morgan stared at the couple standing in front of him. The woman had an amused smile curving her lips. Shae’s wife was stunning: a petite brunette wearing impossibly high heels, and currently hanging on to the arm of the man Morgan hadn’t laid eyes on in five years. For the first time since Shae had walked out, Morgan looked into Shae’s huge eyes. Shae looked amazing in a pale blue sweater and black jeans. A little older than the last time Morgan had seen him, but still amazing. He took a closer look and saw the dark circles etched around Shae’s eyes and the weariness that lined his face.

“Shae.”

Jase moved his legs, allowing Morgan to stand and hold out his right hand.

Shae looked at the hand as if it might bite, but at a nudge from his wife, Shae shook it. Morgan resisted the urge to hold on and never let go.

Guest Post and Giveaway: The Artistic Endeavor Blog Tour With Whitley Gray

Artistic Endeavor BT Banner

And… ACTION!

By Whitley Gray

Thank you to The Novel Approach for hosting me today.

We all hear it, all the time. “Use stronger verbs. Get rid of adverbs.”
“But I love my choices of adverbs!” you say. “They add so much!”
Do they?
Let’s take the classic example: “He walked across the room.”
Okay, add strength. “He walked forcefully across the room.”
Consider: “He strode across the room.” Now we have forcefulness.
“He crossed the room in three strides.” Now we have force plus a concept of distance.
“He shuffled across the room.” Is he using a walker?
“He freighted his bulk up the stairs.” A big guy, right?
Another common one: “She looked at the man.”
Let’s add surprise.
Consider: “She looked with surprise at the man.”
“She gawked at the man.” She’s taking an open-mouthed gander!
“She glared at the man.” Anger!
“She studied the man.” A thorough look.
“She ogled the man.” Good butt, huh? J
One more: “He ate the cake.”
Add enjoyment.
“He enjoyed eating the cake.” Okay, but…
Consider: “He gobbled the cake.” Must be chocolate!
“He picked at the cake.” Not so great a cake?
“He nibbled at the cake.” A polite eater.
“He sucked down the cake.” A teenager, perhaps?
Now go to your work in progress. Find ‘walked,’ ‘looked,’ and ‘eat/ate.’ Add some oomph to those verbs, and send the adverbs to lunch!
A hint: a Thesaurus is a writer’s best friend!

About Whitley: Once upon a misspent youth, Whitley read and wrote stories under the covers at night. At some point, real life intervened, bringing with it responsibilities and a career in the medical field. After years of technical writing, Whitley became enamored of romance and took on the challenge of giving it a try. Inventing characters and putting them through paces in interesting ways turned out to be addictive, and along the way, Whitley discovered having two heroes is twice as nice. A pot of coffee, quiet, and a storyline featuring a couple of guys makes for a perfect day.

Guest Post and Giveaway: Chance to Be King by Sue Brown

BlogTour_ChanceToBeKing

OMG, Christmas is nearly here and I’ve done nothing. Nothing! It started out so well. My daughter and I bought each other tickets to see the comedian Dave Gorman in early November. Only that failed because I went to a funeral instead. Now I’m getting a frying pan. I ordered a new game for my son at the same time. That’s still not arrived and no dispatch date in sight. I’ve ordered my ex’s presents to the kids and my son’s presents to the family. Decorations/cards/food/stockings all died along with the funeral and flu and many edits. Panicking? Me? What gave you that idea? Continue reading
