24-Karat ConspiracyBlurb: Sequel to Jaded
Precious Gems: Book Four

Former Ranger turned FBI agent Reed Acton faces his biggest challenge yet: a Christmas visit from partner Trent Copeland’s parents. He’s less equipped to handle hugs and holidays than the Taliban or international art thieves. When he’s assigned to track down a set of gold Babylonian artifacts looted from the Iraqi National Museum after the fall of Baghdad, things start to look up.

This time, Trent’s part of the mission, which takes them to exotic Istanbul. The crowded streets and labyrinthine markets fascinate Trent, but soon murder is on their trail. The investigation continues as Reed goes undercover at a US Army base, with Trent masquerading as his spouse. Surprisingly, fastidious and ever-fashionable Trent fits into base life right away and soon takes one of the suspects’ wives under his wing when domestic abuse rears its head.

Jaded Series

Excerpt: “Reed, do you still want to go to that New Year’s Eve party I mentioned?” Trent waited for Reed to come up with some lame excuse.

“The one on someone’s boat?”

“That’s it. Beth did some work on one of Wes Tremayne’s films, and he invited her to bring some friends.”

“Who’s Wes Tremayne?”

“The actor? The one who got outed last year and there was that big fuss with his network?”

“I remember now, vaguely. Are you sure Beth can bring us and your parents?”

“It’s all taken care of, as long as you’ll be back by then.”

“I promise.”

“I’ll still love you anyway. But I am going to spend New Year’s Eve with Wes Tremayne, even if you aren’t there.”

“Uh-oh. I don’t like the sound of that.” Clicking noises came across the miles into Trent’s ear. “Oh, hey, no. Uh-uh,” Reed said.

“Uh-uh what?”

“I just googled Wes Tremayne, and you are not going to that party without me.”

Trent nodded and smiled to himself. “Yeah, he’s pretty hot, isn’t he? Afraid you can’t trust me?”

“No. I’m afraid I can’t trust him around you.” Reed made a kissing sound and hung up.

Trent lay back on the bed and stared at the ceiling, smiling until his face hurt.

This was too good to be true.

Blurb: 2nd Edition

Of all the tiny towns, in all the world, he walks into mine.

Texas native Kieran Quinn has hit the big time, working in Manhattan as a columnist for Gloss, a national literary magazine. He’s well-known for his snarky, sardonic columns, but deep down he’s more interested in exploring what makes people tick than his editor would like. He keeps his desire to find his own Mr. Right hidden under a sexy, carefree persona that favors champagne and underwear models of the male variety.

Jaxon Lang loves being the high school principal in tiny Buckwheat Springs, Texas after relocating from Austin to pursue his relationship with Danetta Archer, despite her reputation for leaving grooms at the altar. So far, he’s avoided examining the questions he has about himself, certain that marriage will put them to rest. Then Kieran arrives in town. Kieran’s charm and unique attitudes about sex and attraction soon challenge Jaxon’s concept of what—and who—he wants.

While covering the latest wedding of a real-life “runaway bride,” Kieran falls hard for the gorgeous—and supposedly straight—groom, Jaxon Lang, despite that ridiculous X. Then Kieran discovers the bride’s hiding a shocking secret.

Review: I remember reading the original version of Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells when it was first published a few years back, and I liked it. Well enough that I’ve been a fan of EM Lynley since. And I must say even though there wasn’t anything wrong with the original cover of the book, the new one is an awesome improvement.

I’ve become wary of new versions of old stories, since authors tend to hack away at parts of the book that had originally drawn me in. I’m happy to say this didn’t happen with Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells. If anything, it’s now more detailed and the writing flows better.

As for the characters, I really like Kieran, even if he is a bit of a player. As I was reading the book, I got the impression that he was weary of the one night stands. It seems Kieran is at a point in his life where, as far as a relationship goes, he’s just ripe for the picking. Unfortunately, the one who catches his attention is engaged to a woman, Danetta. Almost right off the bat, after meeting this couple, I got the feeling that not all was well, especially after the dinner party with Danetta’s mother (I would run from this family and never look back!). But Kieran is there for a story for Gloss magazine, and his instant attraction to Jaxon keeps him digging into to what is going on between those two.

The plot of Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells is a slow build; then once the cat is let out of the bag, the second part of the story is what I really enjoyed. It’s no surprise that Kieran and Jaxon eventually end up together, but I did love how their relationship developed, and that Kieran does the ultimate of apologies! Who wouldn’t fall for a guy like that?

Whether you did or didn’t read the original version of this book, I would recommend reading the new and improved version.

DirtyDiningw00Blurb: Jeremy Linden’s a PhD student researching an HIV vaccine. He’s always short of money, and when biotech startup PharmaTek reduces funding for his fellowship, he’s tempted to take a job at a men’s dining club as a serving boy. The uniforms are skimpy, and he’s expected to remove an item of clothing after each course. He can handle that, but he soon discovers there’s more on the menu here than fine cuisine. How far will he go to pay his tuition, and will money get in the way when he realizes he’s interested in more from one of his gentlemen?

Brice Martin is an attorney for a Silicon Valley venture capital firm. When he’s asked to take a client to the infamous Dinner Club, he finds himself unexpectedly turned on by the atmosphere and especially by his server, Remy. He senses there’s more to the sexy young man than meets the eye. The paradox fascinates him, and he can’t get enough of Remy.

Their relationship quickly extends beyond the club and sex. But the trust and affection they’ve worked to achieve may crumble when Jeremy discovers Brice’s VC firm is the one that pulled the plug on PharmaTek—and Jeremy’s research grant.

Excerpt: Jeremy had to set out earlier to get to the city Wednesday night. Without a bike he was forced to use the campus shuttle to BART and arrived at the club’s staff dressing room with barely enough time for a quick shower. Three guys from his previous shift were here: Kit, Rand, and a slim Asian guy named Law—short for Lawrence.

“Hiya, my tasty macaron, nice to see you back again.” Kit gave Jeremy a European-style double kiss, though the second one landed on his mouth and not on his cheek. “Have fun last time?” He asked with innuendo dripping from each word.

“Fun enough.” Jeremy grinned and gave the otherboys a wave. “What’s with Kit and the bakery talk?”

“Oh, he’s on a diet and can’t eat any of that. It’s the only way he can handle the deprivation.” Rand shook his head. “Anyway, glad you’re back,” Rand said and introduced Jeremy to the two boys he didn’t already know.

“Tonight’s costume theme is sailor boys.” Thomas handed out costumes. They were all variations of blue and white, with caps and blue or white shorts. He had a handful of sailor scarves in different colors, but he held onto those. “Need to get the assignments first. You’ll get a scarf to match your gentleman.”

Jeremy went to one of the stations and slipped into his: tiny white shorts, a sleeveless white shirt with buttons down the front, and a little white cloth cap. He practiced sitting in the tight white shorts so he could find the most comfortable way and not risk pain and damage to his balls. Kit noticed and came over.

He cupped Jeremy’s dick through the tight, thin fabric, then gave Jeremy another wholly unnecessary squeeze. “To get you started.” He winked and went back to fixing his own costume.

Thomas came in and took the scarves from Rand. “We had to switch a few boys around. Here’s your assignment.” He handed out the first four scarves, still holding a sky blue one and the green one as he approached Jeremy. He gave Jeremy the blue scarf.

“Hang on. I thought I’d be getting Mr. Green again.”

Thomas looked at Jeremy head-on. “Sorry, Mr. Green asked for someone else tonight. I double-checked because I thought you two worked out well last time.” He spoke softly, but the others could see which scarf he had been given. It was obvious what had happened. Kit looked away.

Jeremy’s stomach felt like it sank through the floor and kept going. “Didn’t he like me?” He whispered the question, ashamed to have his rejection so public, despite Thomas’s obvious attempt to spare his feelings.

“Yes, he did. But he wanted variety. We can discuss this in private later if you want.”

Jeremy blinked. Why did he take this so personally? This was supposed to just be a job for quick easy cash, not a matchmaking service.

Cover Reveal and Giveaway: Dirty Dining by EM Lynley

One of the most joyful experiences as an author (for me, at least) is knowing my book has the perfect cover. It’s not as easy as you might think. I’m not an artist and I generally have a difficult time conveying my vision to the cover artist. So I was absolutely delighted to discover this gorgeous photograph on Deviant Art. It perfectly illustrates my main character Jeremy Linden (my deceptively attractive geek) and the precise tone of Dirty Dining. In fact, Jeremy spends a lot of time in those little white shorts, until he takes them off. Check out the excerpt below to find out just what I’m talking about. Continue reading

TNA: Hi, EM, thanks so much for joining us at The Novel Approach today. Why don’t we start things off by having you tell us a bit about yourself?

EM: Thanks for having me back here yet again. This is one of those questions you get in job interviews or first dates, and never know just where to start!

I’m a full-time writer. That’s a good place to start. It’s exciting and scary not to have a regular paycheck, but I feel privileged to be able to sit down and make up stories all day. It’s a lot easier to come up with ideas than it is to write, so my job isn’t quite as fun as it sounds on the surface.

Besides writing, my passions are cooking and travel. If you’ve read one or two of my books this should come as no surprise. I’d love to be able to make my way around the world again trying different foods in different places, and learning how to cook them.

And I’m a Taurus. What’s your sign? Continue reading

Indy Pride 2014 – Thanks, Pics, And A Wrap Up Of Our Day

Pride Selfies: Me, Jambrea Jo Jones and Lynley Wayne

Pride Selfies: Me, Jambrea Jo Jones and Lynley Wayne

On Saturday, the 14th, I had the privilege of attending my first Pride event here in Indianapolis. It was such a positive and uplifting day, and I’m so glad Lynley Wayne and Jambrea Jo Jones let me tag along on their coattails as a reviewer representative of the genre we write, read and love. As days go, I’ll tell you it’s one I’m not likely ever to forget. Indiana is one of the remaining states in the union that’s not only stubbornly holding on to the man/woman/marriage definition but is a state that’s been working hard to make marriage unconstitutional for same gender couples. After attending Indy Pride and seeing the projected one-hundred-twenty-thousand men, women, and kids in attendance, Indiana is a state that seems poised to move forward and make equality a verb rather than a noun.

We have so many people to thank for their generosity, for without the donations we received, our booth wouldn’t have been such a huge success. The depth of our gratitude can’t be expressed in a few words, but suffice it to say it’s because of these donations that we helped to introduce and spread the word about the M/M romance community to Indianapolis.

2014-06-14 08.33.09

Many thanks go to:

Elizabeth North and Dreamspinner Press for your donation of books, pens, DSP discount coupons, and Chapstick.

MLR Press for your donation of Chapstick (Which, P.S. – people got a kick out of the fact we were giving away vanilla Chapstick in the booth next door to the Indianapolis Kink Society)

Ethan Stone for the donation of books and bookmarks

Jennifer Wright for your donation of books and discount coupons for the purchase of your books at Totally Bound

Sloan Parker for the donation of books

Rider Jacobs for the donation of magnets

Deanna Wadsworth for the donation of bookplates, bookmarks, stickers and discount coupons

EM Lynley for the donation of bookplates

Christopher Koehler for the donation of your books.

And finally, a special thank you to Lynley Wayne’s husband, Brian, for making the spinner wheel so we had a way for people to win all these great prizes.

10414599_10152212019800488_8286002446170111419_n10419486_10152212185900488_4923394142300367688_n

It was gratifying for us to introduce people who love to read to a genre of books some didn’t know existed, and it was even more gratifying when I found people here and there who’d read some of the authors I love, but celebrating books is nothing when compared to meeting people who’ve been marginalized, who’ve been made to feel less than because of who they love, who’ve ever had to hide a part of themselves because of fear of rejection by the people who are supposed to accept and love them unconditionally. When a pagan woman tells you their community is so often forced into hiding because of the misunderstanding of their beliefs, I think it proclaims in big bold letters that Pride events are necessary for anyone who has to put on a public face in order to avoid being judged and condemned. Pride is the day when people can shed the uniform of conformity and celebrate without fear of being ridiculed and harassed for it, and I think I can safely speak for the three of us when I say it was that atmosphere that made it such an amazing day.

2014-06-13 22.39.22

Indy Pride was twelve hours of chatting and pimping and people watching. It was a day filled with more than a few laughs and a lot of celebrating. And of Steve Grand, who is so beautiful and talented and I’m sorry I sucked so badly at videotaping him! But here, here’s a .gif of him that I was able to salvage from the wreckage of my Amishness. Enjoy!

Tired of boring herself and others with dry business reports and articles, her creative muse is back and naughtier than ever. She has lived and worked in London, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., but the San Francisco Bay Area is home for now.

She is the author of Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells, the Precious Gems series from Dreamspinner Press, and the Rewriting History series starring a sexy jewel thief, among others.

Napa Valley Is The Scene Of “An Intoxicating Crush”

“The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost.” – G.K. Chesterton

I have to start out by saying that I loved the first two books in the Delectable series, Brand New Flavor and Lighting the Way Home. I found it hard to dive into this one like I did the others. I didn’t get truly invested in Austin and Simon like I normally would. The physical chemistry between them was OFF THE CHARTS! I just didn’t get a true emotional connection between them until the last quarter of the book.

Simon Ford is a self made man who is working hard to climb out of the lower middle class upbringing of his youth. While being born and raised in Napa Valley, Simon watched the “new money” millionaires come into the area and try to change the entire landscape, in his opinion, for the worse. His mother raised him alone, financed by cleaning house and providing other “services” for these men.

Austin Kelvin inherited Kelvin Cellars from his father. Austin has a mind for wine making, but a not so great mind for business. The winery is in trouble financially, so Austin plans a tasting and dinner at the winery to drum up some business and hopefully put the winery back on track.

This is where Austin and Simon cross paths. Simon’s boss sends him in to evaluate the vineyard for a possible buyout, and Simon sees this as his ticket for advancement in the company and his opportunity to finally “make it”. All of this goes down the tubes as soon as he meets Austin. There is a spark between the two men immediately when they meet. How will Simon be able to do his job and pursue anything with Austin?

Through some twists and turns these two men navigate the cut throat market of Napa Valley and eventually do come out on the other side. With the help of Austin’s father, the two men are able to make things work but not before having to deal with many complications.

Finally, I will say this: This book is well written and the plot twists were worked out with skill. For some reason I just couldn’t love this book. I think a lot of things were left unresolved between Simon and his mother and Austin and his brother. This was a good read, but by far not the best in the series.
