Blurb: Mitchell Morgan is a quiet young man with dangerous secrets. One of those secrets is a psychic power over metal that makes him far more than just the handsome, blue-eyed owner of Advanced Auto Repairs. The other traps him in a world of organized crime and intense violence.

Trevor Lewis is a graphic designer with a passion for drawing, drumming, and his incredibly hot auto mechanic. He meets Mitchell over a broken tail light, and despite—or perhaps because of—Trevor’s awkwardness, Mitchell is charmed. Trevor’s curly hair and brilliant smile bring light into Mitchell’s complicated world. Mitchell would do anything to save Trevor from the dangers of his criminal life—but first Trevor has to save Mitchell from his own darkness.

Excerpt: He set his pint aside and, elbow on the table, rested his chin in his hand. “Actually, I did meet someone,” he began, purposefully vague.

Kay’s eyes lit up. “Yeah? What’s he like? Is he boring? Tell me he’s not boring so he can offset your utter boringness.”

Trevor gaped and feigned offence with a hand to his chest. “I am decidedly not boring!”

“Right. Let’s think about this for a moment.” Kay cleared their throat with a dramatic ahem. “Trevor Lewis. Hobbies include playing the drums, binge-watching television shows, Reddit, drawing those weird, fucked-up sketches—”

“Those are all perfectly valid hobbies that perfectly not-boring people have.”

“Has a comfortable, mostly-remote job, yet doesn’t take advantage of that fact to get completely and utterly fucked up every night—”

“Some of us prefer sobriety as our default state.”

“Whatever. Go on and tell me about this bloke you’ve met.” Kay put their drink aside to make room for their arms, crossing them over the table and plopping their chin down on top. “I’m all ears.”

“His name’s Mitchell.”

“Last name?”

“Morgan.”

Kay pursed their lips and repeated the name as if to discern the taste. “Mitchell Morgan. Hmm. Okay. Go on.”

“He has long hair, not quite as long as yours, but he can put it in a ponytail. Past the ear, just above the shoulder range. Straight, brown. He talks incredibly quietly, and he doesn’t adjust his voice much when it’s loud around him, so then you have to strain to hear what he’s saying. A bit shy, I think, but maybe he’s just one of those soft-spoken types and doesn’t like to raise his voice.”

Kay quirked a brow. “Intriguing.”

“Isn’t it? The opposite of you, I know. Well, he owns a garage—”

“Like a mechanic? Or he just owns the mechanics?”

“What? Why would he just—Yes, like a mechanic. He’s a mechanic, okay. So his skin looks like it can never quite be scrubbed clean and it’s like his fingers have oil embedded into them.”

“Dirty boy,” Kay said, smirking.

Trevor laughed, unable to help it. “Anyway, I’ve been flirting with him for weeks—”

“Weeks?!” Kay sat upright, and immediately looked disoriented from the sudden change in position.

“No, no, no, not so much every day for weeks. More like I’ve taken my Fiesta in for repairs three times now and kind of let on that I liked what I saw each time I went.”

Kay’s shoulders dropped. “Oh. Alright then. And?”

Trevor grinned and stretched out his response by leisurely reaching for his pint and taking a drink. It lost some of its effect since Kay seemed too drunk to be bothered.

“Today was the third time I went to have work done. Told him I wanted new tyres. He almost declined, said he wanted to, but that he shouldn’t.”

“What, why?”

“Because he has a lot of other cars to work on, you know, other customers,” Trevor said, waving a lazy hand in dismissal. “Some guy came in and interrupted us before I could finally ask for his number, but he ended up agreeing to do it and told me to come back tomorrow.” Trevor put his glass down and looked across the table at his friend. “Kay, I’m totally in there.”

Author: Lynn Kelling

Blurb: When Evan and Brennan moved in with their boyfriends, Alek and Luka, they knew things would be complicated, but as their privacy gets eroded, and people around them begin to notice the tangled nature of their relationships, coping becomes a struggle. After Brennan leaves on a brief trip home, and Evan remains behind to enjoy the full attention of both Alek and Luka, the careful balance of things gets thrown off.

Ex-boyfriends surface, haunting Evan and Brennan in similar ways as regret for poor choices threatens their happiness, and the sexual freedom displayed earlier in their lives draws predators willing to use violence, coercion, mind-games and force to take what they want. Though Luka and Alek struggle to protect those they love, it soon becomes clear that the dangers surrounding them will find ways to rush in, trying to take what belongs to them.

Dividers

Review: First off, this is a series that should be read in order. My Brother’s Lover and Dual Affairs are the first two books in the Twin Ties saga. Second, this books deals with some pretty heavy issues that may be triggers for some readers: rape, pedophilia and incest. Please take heed to the warnings.

Having read the first two books, I thought I knew where this story was headed. We’ve already met both sets of twins, and watched as all four men evolved into a relationship with one another. They went through some rough spots, figuring it out along the way, and by the end of the second book, Evan, Brennan, Alek, and Luka are moving in together. So, I’m thinking the third book is going to be an adjustment period, a “getting to know you better” phase. I mean, when you’re in a relationship that involves four people, there’s going to be some issues to tackle, right? Oh boy, was I wrong.

The author takes us on a journey into the past, and we see what really happened to Evan and Brennan before they knew the other existed. At certain times it’s not a pleasant read, but I felt it necessary information so readers fully understood the reasoning behind the characters’ actions and words. Also, I felt the characters needed to be true to themselves and to their lovers about their past; to relive it, understand it, deal with it, and start healing from it. The author does an amazing job here. She gives us cringe-worthy scenes, not for the shock value but for the healing value.

Evan, I loved him from the get go. Even though I thought him to be a little whiny and a bit over dramatic, there was a genuine sweetness about his character. I knew there was more to his story than what the author was giving us in the previous installments, and I knew it wasn’t going to be pretty. We’re in Evan’s head for most of the story, with the beginning of his inner dialogue reading like a broken record of self-doubt. I wanted him to just shut up already, open up and talk it over with his lovers. It can’t be that bad, right? Well, when we get the full, heartbreaking, ugly truth about Evan’s past, I was beyond mortified. And, I finally got Evan. I understood him better. The part of his character that never quite felt right snapped into place. It all makes sense now.

Brennan is Evan’s twin brother. I thought him to be the stronger one. He exuded confidence and independence while all along he was hiding a secret too. Through Brennan’s POV, we see that going back to his hometown proved more difficult than expected because of his own abusive past. Returning home to his lovers, he really has no choice but to tell them everything.

While their situations were vastly different, the one thing that stood out was how each twin mistook abuse as acceptance, both brainwashed into thinking that any attention was better than no attention. One was alone, the other feared being alone. It’s no wonder their back stories had a similar theme. Finding true acceptance within their foursome caused them to finally begin unraveling the depth of mental, physical, and criminal warfare that had been waged upon them. I think the author does a great job delving into these difficult scenes. She was able to bridge the past and present seamlessly, bringing the abusers into the light so the brothers knew them for what they were. We see the real struggle Evan and Brennan went through during this process. The author never glossed over or pushed aside the problem, the characters weren’t miraculously cured by the next chapter. I appreciated that.

Now, I haven’t said much about the other set of twins, mainly because this wasn’t their story. They are both solid characters who are very dedicated to Evan and Brennan. Alek and Luka are there for support, helping as much as they can. It was really nice to see this other side of them, but I know they have their own story to tell. From what I know, Ms. Kelling is planning to explore their backstory in book four. I can’t wait.

The climax of this story is one of the best sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat scenes that I’ve read in a long while. It wasn’t resolved in a nice gift wrapped box. It was messy, violent, graphic and disturbing. I couldn’t imagine it ending any other way. Evan and Brennan’s stories weren’t pretty, so why should the resolution be?

All in all, this story stopped being about twincest, stopped being about anything taboo. It’s about the love these four men have for each other. It’s about healing and getting back that self-worth, to finally move on, to love and be loved back. It’s about never being alone. I can’t wait for the next book.

Excerpt: He’s mine, and I want to make him feel good again. I missed touching him, and if the way he thrusts himself against me is any sign, he misses being touched. I tease him, working his body to relax and open for me, flicking my tongue out and over his cock, biting gently at the insides of his legs. Everything is calm for once, and I want to take my time with him.

Sascha tries to keep speaking, but he quickly loses the ability. I keep touching him, feeling him yield to me. For once, there are no immediate threats hanging over either of our heads, and I let myself relax, feeling myself grow hard and excited as I do. I slide up, kissing Sascha deeply, pressing against his body with mine. After I’ve taken all I can handle, I slide him down the pillows, arranging him on the mattress exactly where I want him. He looks up at me with excitement and a little fear, and I love that I inspire that in him. He leans up to kiss me and I push him back down, holding him there. I like his input, but I have my own ideas of what I want to do with him tonight. When he acquiesces, lying still for me, I climb on top of him, framing his body with my own, lining my cock up, ready to take him. I pause, admiring him below me.

He shudders, just slightly, and he smiles up at me. I keep pinning him there, even as he tries to move. He wiggles his ass against my cock a tiny bit until I push a little harder, forcing him to stay still.

“You’re mine,” I remind him, pressing him hard into the mattress with my hands and my hips.

Sascha nods, and I can feel his cock growing harder between us. “Prove it,” he challenges me, although his tone is barely different from begging.

I don’t deny him. I prove just how much he is mine, and I do so slowly, holding him down when he even tries to move. He tries to take me into him faster, meeting my thrusts, but I won’t have it. I force him to wait, to feel me sliding in and out of him slowly, sensually. I feel his arms twitch; he’s trying to grab me and pull me closer, but I trap him and keep him pinned to the bed. I make my way inside of him as slowly as I can tolerate, and when I finish, I continue to hold him in place. I smile at him feeling like I’ve won the challenge.

Blurb: Most things in life come easily to eighteen-year-old Jenner Parrish, who’s on track to inherit the family business, and is popular, well-liked and good looking. He has everything he could want, except when it comes to love, and sex. Closeted, lonely and desperate, he acquires an invitation to an event at a nearby private gay club, Manse. Feeling out of his element and for the first time quite shy, Jenner is unable to play the wallflower when he captures the attention of the suave, seductive owner of Manse, David Davenport. David is used to getting what he wants, and what he wants is gorgeous young Jenner, who begins to realize every fantasy and wild desire could be his for the taking, if only he dares to ask and obediently serve.

Review: Lynn Kelling’s Learning from the Master is a short prequel to the author’s Bound by Lies, a book Jackie reviewed for TNA back in August of 2013, and a fact I’d overlooked before I started reading it. I can now say, upon finishing, that my appetite for more Jenner Parrish won’t be satisfied until I continue reading his story.

Learning from the Master offers us a glimpse at Jenner, the young man he was before he became the Master in “Bound“, though even at the tender age of eighteen, he knows he’s meant to Dominate. Jenner is the Golden Boy, small town football hero, in line to inherit the Parrish family business, gorgeous and deeply in the closet, but he also knows he’s missing something crucial to his being. After garnering an invitation to Manse, an exclusive gay club, Jenner meets his destiny in the man who will set about altering and shaping the budding Dom’s future.

David Davenport is the wealthy businessman and powerful Dom who owns Manse. He’s also the man who recognizes in Jenner a Dom-in-Waiting, and takes it upon himself to win Jenner’s submission in order to train and mentor him to become the Master, the man who will eventually come to long for his own submissive—something Jenner awakens to when he witnesses firsthand the deep love and trust that binds David and his own sub Shea.

Lynn Kelling has crafted a novella that is touching in its portrayal of Jenner’s devotion to David, as well as his desire to protect and care for Shea, the man who stirs in Jenner the most important lesson he will ever learn—how precious the submission and trust is between a slave and his Master when there is an abiding devotion there as well.

Learning from the Master is erotic, though not gratuitously so for the story it’s telling. Though not a virgin, it’s Jenner’s sexual awakening that’s the heart of this story, and in order for that awakening to come to fruition, for him to discover what he needs in order to be fulfilled, Jenner must learn not only to trust in and listen to his own instincts, but he must learn to do so by submitting to David’s instruction, whether that means being Dominated by David or David giving his permission for Jenner to Dominate others.

Based on Jackie’s recommendation of Bound by Lies, and my own experience with Learning from the Master, I feel it’s safe to say if you haven’t read “Bound” yet, begin here and work your way toward the rest of Jenner’s story. This is a lovely start to a young Dom’s initiation and transformation, and it sounds like Bound by Lies is a great followup to his journey.
