Blurb: Paramedic Pete Adams lived through the year from hell watching his lover, Ash, fall apart, and the precarious balance between work and home is becoming more strained. His heart is always home, with Ash, but the dark side to his job is weighing him down.

Tattoo artist Ash Fagin is recovering from a nervous breakdown triggered by revelations about his traumatic childhood. His battle with mental illness is far from over, but with Pete by his side, he’s feeling good again, so good he doesn’t notice something missing until it walks right into his living room.

Ash believes he’s had enough coincidence in his life, but when a voice from the past comes looking for him, it takes the devastating injuries of the one he loves most to convince him to let a ghost become the family he never knew he wanted.

Review: Let me begin by saying that I absolutely loved reading Rare by Garrett Leigh, and have no problem putting everything she writes on my auto-buy list. I’ll also say it’s a real treat to now have Rare in audiobook format. I love when I can sit back and let someone else read to me.

As for Michael Lesley, I’m familiar with him from his performance of TJ Klune’s Tell Me It’s Real, so I was comfortable with this particular narrator, knowing he’s someone worth listening to. I was not disappointed. Lesley does an outstanding job in his performance of Rare, and he turned out to be the perfect choice for the voices of both Ash and Pete. I could feel the pain Ash went through when Pete had his accident, and could feel Pete’s frustration as he realized things had change because of that accident. That’s the beauty of a well done narration, when the vocalization brings out more of what you might have missed while reading the story.

I highly recommend listening to Rare if you love to be read to by a very talented narrator.

Blurb: Do you believe in love at first sight?

Paul Auster doesn’t. Paul doesn’t believe in much at all. He’s thirty, slightly overweight, and his best features are his acerbic wit and the color commentary he provides as life passes him by. His closest friends are a two-legged dog named Wheels and a quasibipolar drag queen named Helena Handbasket. He works a dead-end job in a soul-sucking cubicle, and if his grandmother’s homophobic parrot insults him one more time, Paul is going to wring its stupid neck. Continue reading
