Blurb: Because sometimes it takes some distance to finally see what’s right in front of you…

Tyler Mitchell has worked hard to rebuild his life after his family kicked him out. A culinary student and sous chef who spends his spare time volunteering with kids, he’s happy enough even though he has no time to consider a relationship.

Trevor Pratt is finally getting over losing his best friend and the one person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, but it’s taken screwing every cute guy in Manhattan to get there. He’s vowed to repair the friendship he endangered, but that’s hard to do when his friend’s new employee catches his eye. Despite being warned to stay away from Tyler, Trevor knows the sous chef is more than just a hookup.

Romance is a terrible idea. Trevor is ten years older and a relentless playboy. Tyler is still unsure of his place in the world. Neither of them is ready for life-changing love, but as things heat up, their chemistry in the bedroom might just take that decision out of their hands.

Read about Ethan and Jamie’s romance in In the Raw and In The Fire, Books 1 & 2 in the In The Kitchen Series, available now!

Excerpt: I threw him a dirty look over my shoulder as we walked out of the diner. “Okay. So I might have had my dad’s Platinum AmEx card to help me out, but I struggled just like the rest of my classmates.”

Tyler’s low, deep laugh hit me in all the right, and wrong, places. “Poor baby. I’m sure it was hard to choose between the double shot extra whip latte and the regular Joe Blow latte.”

God, it was good to hear him laugh. “Hey now. Leave my double shot latte out of this,” I shot back as I unlocked the doors to the Mercedes coupe I’d rented.

His laughter slowly faded as I pulled out of the parking lot. I had only been to Ethan’s old place a few times when Jamie had first moved back to Seattle and before they had bought a new condo together. But Tyler made sure to keep me on the right track with directions, his voice getting softer and softer the closer we got to the apartment.

I pulled up to the curb, letting the car idle instead of parking and walking him to his door. As much as I found myself not wanting the night to end, it wouldn’t have been smart to push whatever this was. Anyone else? We’d already be upstairs with Tyler’s pants around his ankles and my mouth on him. But he wasn’t just anyone else.

Tyler, who had been staring out his window, slowly turned toward me. The soft lights of the dash barely illuminated his face. God, he looked young, innocent and worth every ounce of protectiveness he brought out in the people who cared about him.

“Thanks for the ride. And dinner. It was nice.”

He turned again and reached for the door handle.

“Hey, Tyler. Wait up.”

Exclusive Outtake from In the Distance: When we’re writing the first draft of our current WIP, we usually throw in everything we can think of into the outline and MS, then go back through and cull what doesn’t work or drags the story’s timing.

That was the case with two of our scenes from our latest novel, In The Distance, Book Three of our In The Kitchen Series, each of which centered around Thanksgiving. In our minds, we could see the extreme difference between how Tyler and Trevor spend their holidays – one spending it at a homeless shelter; the other spending it surrounded by family and friends, but still feeling incredibly alone. We decided to cut both and save them for outtakes, but I firmly believe Tyler’s interaction with his mom and their family friends gives the reader a little bit of insight earlier rather than later on in the book into Trevor’s fragile heart and emotional well-being. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into Trevor’s past ☺

Trevor

November: Thanksgiving

“So the writer looks at the detective, all excited, and says, ‘My agent called?’”

I held back my sigh of annoyance and, instead, threw my head back and laughed my best fake laugh. “Ah, that’s a good one.”

I wanted to tell him I was a manager who was interested in the well-being of my clients, unlike most agents I’d worked with over the years who were mostly concerned with making the most lucrative deal, but in today’s entertainment business, the lines between the two were blurring so much that most people didn’t even know the two jobs weren’t one and the same.

The senior partner at my dad’s firm laughed at his joke, then moved on to the next group of unsuspecting victims. It was times like these I wondered how my parents had kept their sanity by continuing to uphold their tradition of inviting anyone and everyone who didn’t have a place to be on Thanksgiving to their house for dinner and laughter.

The man standing next to me laid a hand on my shoulder and squeezed. “Well that was a joke none of us had heard before. Between you and me, if I have to listen to Warren tell me what a hot shot you are behind the scenes of the culinary world one more time, I may just have to accidentally throw my racquet at him during our next court time at the club.”

I didn’t embarrass easily, but I felt my cheeks warm from Mr. Slater’s compliment. “Thanks, but feel free to kick my dad’s ass at racquetball anytime you want. You don’t have to wait for him to brag on his spoiled brat of a son to do it.”

“Warren will be happy to know it didn’t take me whining much for you to throw him under the bus. Speaking of, I’m off to find your old man to squeeze another glass of his Macallan from him.” He chuckled softly as he scanned the room to find my dad. “He’s had that damn scotch for too long and it’s time he enjoyed it.”

I caught my dad’s eye across the room and nodded. “I’d join you but I’m headed out too. However, I’ll let you in on a little secret.” I leaned in closer and whispered, “Dad purchased a bottle of Highland Park at auction a few years ago. If you think the Macallan is good, you’re in for a treat with the fifty year-old single malt he’s got stashed away. Top left corner of the antique liquor cabinet in his study.”

Mr. Slater’s deep laugh had never failed to make me smile growing up and being the one to get that reaction from him was a nice treat after doing the family thing today. “I see you’re still a troublemaker. Take care of yourself and don’t be a stranger. Your dad and I may be too old farts, but I bet we can still take you on the court.”

“I’ll happily take you up on that bet,” I snorted and gave him a hug. Once I was alone again, I took a sip of my wine as I watched him walk over to my dad.

Franklin Slater and my dad, Warren Anderson Pratt, had grown up together in upstate New York and roomed together during their days at UT—my dad in in the school of advertising and Mr. Slater in the school of architecture. It had taken some time to establish themselves once they’d graduated and moved back home, but the real estate boom of the 80s helped each of them to make a solid name for themselves in New York society. At least half of Midtown’s Upper East Side bore Mr. Slater’s mark in one way or another and my dad cleaned up by gaining the right connections both in entertainment and business to market their name to the public. Almost forty years later, both men had amassed small fortunes and were at the top of the food chain in their fields. My mom and Mrs. Slater often joked about their close friendship, feigning jealousy that their two husbands never missed their beloved racquetball match, unless one of them was out of town and physically incapable of making it to the club.

“It means a lot to your dad that you’re here tonight. We missed you last year.”

I turned to face my mother, whose smile widened as she watched Mr. Slater drag my dad out of the formal dining room waving his empty crystal tumbler in my dad’s face. Before the turned the corner, Mr. Slater looked across the room to find my eyes and winked, a very self-satisfied expression prominent on his face.

“Wait until Dad finds out I let it spill that he just might have a seventeen thousand dollar bottle of scotch in his study that needs opening. He might just cut me from the guest list for the next family get together.”

My mom’s surprised laughter was followed up by a gentle swat on my arm. “Your dad is going to kill you.”

“Nah. If it was anyone other than his second wife hinting that he open it, he would. But we both he can never refuse Mr. Slater anything.”

“God, those two really do act like an old married couple. Don’t they?”

I smiled at my mom, still as beautiful as she was in her wedding picture. At age fifty-six, Margaret Windsor Pratt—Maggie, to my dad and her closest friends—still turned heads when she and my dad went out on the town. Daughter of an investment broker, my mom had grown up in New York’s elite society, but had always worked hard not to let her family’s money and status make her one of the “obnoxious socialites” she’d grown up with. My dad and mom both happened to attend a social gala that Mr. Slater’s company hosted, talked all night and into the morning, both freely admitting to this day it had been love at first sight. It was a disgustingly romantic story I’d heard hundreds of times over the years, and I secretly envied them.

She looked around the crowded room and sighed. “You know, I keep thinking one year we’ll have a small family Thanksgiving dinner with just the three of us. Maybe invite your Uncle Thomas and his family. But your dad can’t quite seem to give this up.”

I shook my head as I looked around my parents’ crowded living room.  Their townhouse, only a few blocks away from Central Park, was anything but small. However, the large crowd of extended “family” my parents had chosen to invite to this year’s Thanksgiving meal made it feel that way at the moment. “You both have been doing this for so long, it would be weird with just the three of us.” I shuddered wondering how any of us would deal with the lack of noise.

“Weird, but nice. Maybe next year.” My mom paused and then laughed as she pointed to my dad and Mr. Slater reentering the living room with fresh—and halfway full—crystal tumblers.

She playfully swatted my arm, still laughing. “That’s all your fault, you know?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Dad needed a reason to open that scotch. I just provided an excuse for him.”

“You’re just lucky your father has a partner in crime to get into trouble with. Speaking of? How is Jamie?”

I couldn’t help it. I flinched. What was even worse? My mom noticed it.

Blurb: Because the way to a man’s heart…

Eight years ago, the world was their oyster. Until, that is, competing chefs Ethan Martin and James Lassiter’s hot and heavy relationship fizzled after Jamie left for an internship in Paris. Even though Jamie’s career has taken off since his return to the States, with his own television show and a lot of fame, his feelings for Ethan have never quite gone away.

Ethan’s culinary career has developed more slowly, but he’s almost saved enough to buy the restaurant where he works and re-open it as his dream spot, Bistro 30. If only he could get the sexy chef who loved him and left him out of his mind.

But when someone starts sabotaging the restaurant and a fire threatens to take away everything Ethan holds dear, his only option is to rely on Jamie for help. Back in close quarters, the two men will have to find a way to work through their past if they hope to save the restaurant and their future.

Dividers

Review: Eight years have passed since Jaime and Ethan were rivals and lovers. The strain of a long distance relationship, coupled with lack of communication and a jealous ‘friend’s’ meddling, tore them apart. Leaving both without closure as to just why things ended makes for an interesting meeting the first time they see each other again.

While Jaime has been over in Paris, with a career that has taken flight, Ethan’s taken longer to reach the dream of owning his own restaurant.  Now, that’s not to say either have regrets for what happened in the past. Nor does it mean that they are actually over each other, because they lacked that closure of really saying their relationship was finished eight years before. Now being tossed together again after all these years, both realize they have things left unsaid and unfinished. It actually throws them both for a loop they weren’t expecting. Along the way of figuring out what went wrong, they also figure out they really aren’t finished with their relationship. That doesn’t mean things are going to be easy, though, because there is still someone who is trying to come between them, and there is someone trying to sabotage Ethan’s new restaurant.

In the Fire is told in alternating points of view, which really gives you better perspective of both sides of the story. While you think the breakup would be relatively cut and dried, it really wasn’t, because there was major miscommunication and hurt feelings on both sides due to perceived faults. If they had only talked to each other and not let others direct their paths, they probably would have never split.

This was a good follow-up to In The Raw, which introduced these two characters. In the years that have passed, Ethan and Jaime have grown up in so many ways, but they do still have some of the same issues from the first book. Ethan still has a temper, hates to ask for help, and still worries about others before himself, which really puts him in a bind a few times in this book. The story was solid from start to finish and kept a good pace with both points of view.  This book did offer closure for Ethan and Jaime, which is ultimately what I’d wanted from both stories.

I recommend this for anyone who loves a man who knows their way around the kitchen, and is able to admit when he’s wrong, or didn’t pay attention to what was going on.

Title:  In the Raw (In the Kitchen: Book One)

Author:  Nikka Michaels and Eileen Griffin

Publisher: Carina Press

Pages/Word Count: 209 pages

At a Glance: A really solid, highly enjoyable story that I’d consider reading again

Blurb: If you can’t take the heat…

James Lassiter has had a crush on fellow culinary student Ethan Martin for three years, but has never had the guts to make a move. Putting himself out there is hard, especially when under the thumb–and wallet–of his overbearing parents. Now that bad boy chef Ethan–who is always vying with Jamie for best in class–is struggling with the pastry course, Jamie suddenly has a reason to reach out.

Ethan doesn’t mean to be an ass–okay, so mostly he does–but even though he’s secretly hot for Jamie, he sure as hell doesn’t want help with pastry. Ever since his dad walked out, Ethan has been the one to hold things together and he’s done fine on his own. Except that he can’t get his cake to rise.

Jamie could be the answer to what Ethan’s been missing his whole life–someone to depend on. But with the two competing for the same scholarship, things suddenly get too hot to handle. And if Jamie finds the strength to go for what he wants, he isn’t about to settle for what he needs.

Dividers

Review: There is something utterly HOT about a man who really knows his way around food, and not just by eating.

Jamie and Ethan are fellow culinary school classmates in the same year, competing for the same elite scholarship. While Ethan is phenomenal at crafting a savory meal, when it comes to the intricacies of pastry, well, he is at a major loss and needs help. His help comes in the form of Jamie, by way of Ethan’s sister, Claire. With Ethan struggling over the pastry class, Claire ends up partnered with Jamie. She deviously works with Jamie to get Ethan to accept his help with figuring out what he’s doing wrong with the delicate pastries.

There’s an instant reaction between Jamie and Ethan because both have noticed the other in both good and bad ways. Ethan is a bit of a bad boy, he’s got ink, and major attitude that annoys the ever living hell out of some of his Chefs, his sister, and definitely Jamie. Jamie is the well put together kind of guy that normally irritates the hell out of Ethan, but he’s attracted to him even if he doesn’t want to be attracted.

While the heat moves from simmer to burn for our sexy chefs, the competition between them for the scholarship in Paris heats up. I’ll share that the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, which sets up the second book in the series.

This was the first book I’ve read by this writing team, and I’d definitely look for more from them. I really enjoyed Ethan and Jamie as characters, and the few secondary characters were well written. I’d have loved to see more interaction with Jamie and his family and maybe known a bit more about Ethan and Claire’s past. Otherwise, this was a really solid, highly enjoyable story that I’d consider reading again.

I’d recommend this for all those who love a man that knows how to cook, looks sexy in an apron, or sports a bit of the bad boy image with ink. Also, must love that bad boy and sexy chef attitude.

“Room Service” – With Nikka Michaels, It Might Not Mean What You Think It Means, But A Giveaway Does

Thanks again to Lisa and the crew at The Novel Approach for having me today.

Since we just celebrated Valentine’s Day, I thought it’d be a good idea to have Dr. Seth Coleman, one of the characters from Room Service talk to you about five easy ideas to put the spark in a relationship.

Let me just add that no ties were harmed in the writing of this story. Maybe dirtied and wrinkled, but not harmed.

Nikka: Thanks for joining us, Seth.

Seth: “Thanks, Nikka and Lisa. I’m a surgeon but as a medical doctor, I understand the importance of healthy sex and sexuality.”

Nikka: “I’m TeamSex. Bring it on”.

Seth: *chuckles* “Who isn’t?”

“Okay, let me start with Number 1: Communication. Communication with your partner or partners is important. If you don’t communicate your needs, you’ll never know what you’re missing out on. Sexuality is like a popular ice cream chain with multiple flavors for everyone. What’s sexy for one person might be a turn-off for others.”

Nikka: “Talk about the dirty. Don’t be afraid to explore fantasy within your limits. Like Seth here, for instance.”

Seth: “Number 2: Lubrication, lubrication, lubrication. Whatever kind of sex you have, an overabundance of lube will go a long way.”

Nikka: “Lube it, lube it good. No one likes chafing.”

Seth: “Number 3: Never underestimate the power of eye contact. So much of sexual attraction is visually based, especially for men. Watching your partner while you interact can go a long way.”

Nikka: “The opposite of that? Experimenting with blindfolds can be fun. Right Seth?” *twirls a knotted neck tie around my finger*

Seth: *clears his throat* “Yes. Yes, it can.”

Seth: “Number 4: Add variety. Stuck in a rut of having sex in the dark in your bedroom? Try something like a hotel room. Just changing up your location can add a spark.”

Nikka: *cough “door sex” cough*

Seth: “Number 5: Dirty talk. Some people like a running commentary. Some people like total quiet, but if agreeable between partners, try spicing up your interaction by telling your partner what feels good, how sexy they are to you, etc.”

Nikka: “Dirty talk for the win!” *fist bumps Seth*

Thanks for speaking with us today, Seth. Now let me tell everyone about your story, Room Service.

Room Service

By Nikka Michaels

Genre: Erotic Romance, M/M, BDSM

Length: Short Story

Release Date: February 15, 2014

Publisher: Cobblestone Press

What is Cobblestone Press’ Blue Line?

The Blue short story line is erotica. For us, erotica is about the fulfillment of a sexual fantasy. These stories are sexy, very graphic, and are by no means a “traditional romance”.

BLURB:

When Dr. Seth Coleman catches the gaze of handsome conference speaker, Carson Randall, he’s intrigued. After the speech, Carson introduces himself and hands him his business card then leaves. Seth discovers the card holds more than Carson Randall’s information; on it Carson has written his room number.

For as long as Seth can remember, he has focused his attention on being a doctor. But now he has the chance to focus on his own needs. Will Seth take the safe route and socialize with his co-workers at the conference or will he accept the handsome speaker’s invitation?

EXCERPT:

My sharp knock on the hotel door went unanswered, and indecision began to creep in.

My thoughts cut off sharply as the door’s lock clicked. When the hotel door opened, Carson stood in the doorway, his jacket discarded and white dress shirt rolled up his forearms.

“Find what you’re looking for?”

I simply nodded and stepped inside. The door closed behind me with a soft click as I looked around his hotel room. Bigger than mine, it had a single king-sized bed, the blankets pulled back. Tossed across the bed was his jacket and tie.

Within the next breath, I felt my cheek pressed against the cool metal of the door as he pinned my arms behind my back. His breath against my neck sent a shiver through me.

“Is this what you want?”

I moaned.

Yes.

I wanted him to use me. Consume me. Fuck me. Ruin me.

His hands tightened on my arms, the faint suggestion of pain making my half-hard cock spring to attention.

“I said is this what you want?”

“Yes.” My voice was embarrassingly breathless, and he’d only just touched me.

His lips against my neck made me shudder when he nipped me with his teeth.

“Yes, sir.”

Nikka Michaels Is Here To Tell You Five Things You Should Know About Waking Up Wolf

::waves::

Thanks so much to Lisa at The Novel Approach for giving me a chance to share five things about the wolf shifters in my newest release, Waking Up Wolf in Evernight Publishing’s M/M Shifter Anthology, Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition. Big gropey loves for The Novel Approach for letting me hang out with them today. It’s an honor.

Waking Up Wolf is a short paranormal erotic romance where two men find each other in a post- apocalyptic world. When a radioactive leak in the local water source turns the inhabitants of Adam Baker’s small town into shape shifting wolves, he manages to hold and survive alone–except for the wolves he hears in the distance. When he doesn’t immediately undergo “the change” into a wolf himself, he begins to believe he’s immune. After his dreams begin to include another wolf, he finds himself drawn to the howls outside his window and the pack’s alpha, Grady Conway.

1) In the post Change world, shifters (changelings) and trues (the wolves who were born wolves) compete with each other for their lives and territory.
2) Unlike other shifter worlds, the human wolf shifters in Waking Up Wolf underwent the change due to a radioactive leak in the water system.
3) Alpha’s are the leader of individual Changeling groups and they have to claim a mate.
4) Changelings can communicate through their minds when in wolf form.
5) Changelings can learn to shift and control their change at will with practice.

Now, let me introduce you a little more to Waking Up Wolf:

Waking up Wolf

By Nikka Michaels

Genre: Erotic Romance, M/M, Paranormal, Shifter

Length: Anthology Length Short Story

Release Date: January 24, 2014

Publisher: Evernight Publishing

Anthology Title: Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition

Strength. Power. Domination.

The shifters in our Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology have one thing in common—they won’t take “no” for an answer. Whether they lead packs of their own, or whether they walk a solitary path, these alphas won’t let anyone stop them from claiming their men.

Lose yourself in these ten sinfully delicious love stories. After all, who could deny an Alpha’s claim?

WAKING UP WOLF EXCERPT:

Adam watched him carefully. “You don’t even know me. Why would you invite me back with your family, your pack?”

Grady looked down. “What if I told you we needed you? That I needed you?”

Adam stared at him like he’d gone crazy.

“Me? Why would you need me?”

“A true alpha needs a mate.” Grady raised his head, meeting Adam’s eyes, and for a moment he couldn’t look away.

“And you think I’m your mate?”

“I don’t think. I know. You’re my mate, always have been.”

Adam backed away, and he felt himself shake and pain shoot through his body as he fell to his knees. Naked and sprawled in the dirt he stared up at Grady, who closed his eyes and shifted, leaving himself bare as well.

Adam swallowed hard as he stared up at Grady in shock. This close he could see every single inch of the tanned and toned body of the man who commanded a pack. Muscled and imposing, he stared down at Adam, his blue eyed gaze heated.

Without another word, Grady took a step closer, sliding his hand over the top of Adam’s head possessively. He slowly wrapped his hand around Adam’s long dark dreads and pulled his head back, exposing his neck. Adam’s eyes slammed shut as he waited for Grady to change and wolf teeth to tear out his throat. Instead, when Grady’s human teeth sank into his shoulder he shuddered and cried out.

Pleasure/pain surged through Adam’s body as he jerked awake, his cock throbbing as he felt hot cum stripe his belly. His legs shook as he panted for breath, his bed sheets and body soaked with sweat.

His dreams had never been that vivid before, and when he shifted his body his muscles screamed in protest and he flopped back with a moan.

When he yanked back the blankets he stared.

His feet were dirty, caked in mud along with his hands. On his neck, he could feel Grady’s teeth marks.

He’d been marked by the alpha.

Nikka Michaels And Eileen Griffin Have Brought Chase, Matt, And A Giveaway With Them

We’re so pleased to have both authors and gentlemen here with us today to say hi, so read on to learn a little bit about Chase and Matt, and see how easy it is to enter for a chance to win Chasing Matt

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Blurb

Chase Williams is a gorgeous but painfully shy web designer whose long term boyfriend dumped him for being such a “nice” guy. Instead of meeting his buddies at the local bar for a drink he helps his elderly neighbor with a DIY project. When a wobbly step ladder leads to a banged up wrist and a trip to the ER Chase is convinced it’s the worst night ever. Then he meets his handsome nurse.

Matt Owens is the boy next door who loves working in the busy ER. He’s more than ready to clock out from his double shift until he meets his patient in Bed 4. Matt’s bedside manner is charming enough to make Chase consider throwing caution to the wind and going after what he wants for a change. But will Matt’s attraction to Chase be enough to make him to break his rule about never dating patients?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Interview with Matt and Chase from Chasing Matt

Question for Chase from Eileen: How did you know that Matt was someone you were willing to take a chance on?

A: *turns beet red* Usually when I meet people they say hello then immediately move onto someone more interesting because I tend to be on the shy and quiet side. With Matt it was different. Well, obviously he treated me as a patient, at the ER, but still, he actually talked to me as a person that was worth talking to and looked past the geeky glasses.

*slight interruption from Matt* Chase, for the thousandth time. The glasses are so far beyond geeky, it’s not even funny. And you in them? Dude, they, and you in them, are hot.

Question for Matt from Nikka: What was it about Chase that made you stop after your shift was over and ask if he needed help in the ER’s lobby?

A: He just looked so alone and I didn’t think that anyone should feel alone in the world. Especially after such a stressful night like the one he’d just had. Plus, he was really hot in his borrowed scrubs.

Question for Chase from Nikka: What do you think of Matt’s truck?

A: *looks over at Matt and turns an even deeper shade of red* I happen to love Matt’s truck. I also happen to love what Matt can do in his truck. *Matt smirks*

Question for Matt from Eileen: What are your honest impressions/feelings about Chase’s ex-boyfriend, Stephen?

A: Without question? He’s a total dick. And not in the good way. Luckily he leaves Chase alone now and has moved on.

Question for Chase from Nikka: Has Mr. Hodges asked for your help with any more DIY projects?

A: He has, but I bought him a new step ladder. I don’t want to end up in the ER again anytime soon.

*interruption from Matt* Um, I might have given Mr. Hodges my cell number. Just in case he needed any more projects done. As happy as I was to meet Chase in the ER, I don’t want him back there anytime soon either.

Question for Matt from Eileen: Caro seems a little wild. Can you tell the readers a little bit more about her?

A: Caro is…well. Caro. She’s very loud and opinionated and totally obnoxious. But she’s also a very loyal and caring friend. Even though she went a little overboard trying to get Chase and me together she meant well.

Question for Chase from Nikka: What are your plans for the future?

A: My plans are expanding my home based business, trying more things with Matt and hopefully getting out there a little more. Well, one step at a time.

Question for Matt from Eileen: What are your plans for the future?

A: Getting out more when I have time and am off work and hanging out more with Chase. He’s very much into his Rec Sports soccer league, so I’ve decided to give that a try. *coughs* I also like to be on hand in case any “accidents” happen while he’s playing.

*interruption from Chase* What kind of accidents? I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself.

*smirk from Matt* But I like being the one who takes care of you.

Question from Chase from Eileen: What’s your favorite sexual position?

A: *turns crimson red and avoids all eye contact with everyone in the room* Um… Is that really one of the interview questions?

Question for Matt from Nikka: What’s your favorite sexual position?

A: *smirks wider* Yes, Chase. It’s really one of the interview questions. My favorite position is any position that involves Chase, so do I really have to pick just one?

Question for Chase from Nikka: What’s your favorite thing about Matt?

A: *smiles over at Matt* I love his sense of humor. If I’ve had a long or bad day, he never fails to have me smiling or laughing within minutes of just being near him.

Question for Matt from Eileen: What’s your favorite thing about Chase?

A: *smiles over at Chase* I love his loyalty and passion for life and the people in his life. He loves with all of his heart. It’s hard to find that in someone these days. I just feel lucky that I was on duty the night he walked into the ER.

Excerpt

Nurse Matt Owens paused and held my eyes for a minute before leaning over to type some notes on the computer. My skin flushed when he looked away. I liked the feeling of his eyes on me. I only wished he did it with personal interest instead of the clinical way he evaluated my injury.

I shifted on the stretcher as he gently manipulated my wrist, his hands steady and warm through the gloves. The pain was mostly manageable, until he held onto my forearm with one hand, and flexed my hand backward with the other. I jumped and yelped, unable to hide how much even that small movement hurt.

His eyes were sympathetic, but his hands remained firmly on my arm, steadying me. “Sorry. Bad news? There’s a lot of swelling, and the skin is already turning a nice shade of purple.”

He looked back down at my wrist, and manipulated my fingers and wrist again. When he held my hand still and slowly moved his thumb in circles over the top of my wrist, my breath hitched. The pain of the injury mixed with a deeper pleasure that shot straight to my cock. I quickly shifted my good arm to cover my lap.

“Pain?” Matt’s concerned eyes met mine as he moved his thumb, gently rubbing the swollen skin between my thumb and pointer finger.

“A little.”

“Pressure points can help alleviate pain sometimes, but right now you’re too swollen to receive any real benefit. This pressure point is called the Valley of Harmony, but I’m sensing this is less than harmonic for you.”

I thought I saw the smallest hint of a smirk on his lips, but I couldn’t be sure since his face was still tilted down toward my arm. I cursed at myself for getting turned on by a nurse’s clinical exam.
“I’ve just called for a tech from Radiology to escort you down for your scans. Do you have any questions?”

I laughed under my breath. Did I have any questions? A whole litany of questions came to my mind ranging from where the hell was the exit so I can finally go home to what’s your phone number.

After I settled on the new stretcher, the tech wheeled me down the hallway towards Radiology. All I thought about was whether Matt would be there when I got back from the tests. If he was, and I hadn’t killed anyone from the pain taking over my whole body, maybe I’d actually work up the courage to strike up a conversation that had nothing to do with sludgy coffee, sucky fluorescent lighting, or beautiful ER lobbies, and get to know more about Nurse Owens. Maybe I’d embrace the new Chase Williams like Brett wanted me to and actually go after what I wanted for the first time in my life.
